Cha‐Mame Cafe — Restaurant in Takayama

I absolutely love this cafe! It's the highlight of my trip here in takayama. Really sad that I only came across this cafe on my last night here and won't be able to try other food menu items 😔 It's such a lovely cafe, the decor is special. Super shout-out for the vegetables which were super delicious and the seasoning completely brings the natural flavours of the dish to a while new level. The owner is so kind and hospitable, he worked alone in the shop but the service he provided was the best. The shrimp with chilli sauce dish came with either rice or bread, and we ordered a plate of stir-fried vegetables after having a taste of how good the tomatoes and lotuses are from the shrimp dish. Hontoni umai desu!! Arigato gozaimashita!!! Best meal...

Wife and I are both Vegetarian and visiting in Japan. It’s been pretty hard to find a place that caters to our diet, but we found this hidden gem while searching for places to eat in Takayama. In the two times we’ve traveled to Japan, this is hands down THE best food, service, and atmosphere of any restaurant we’ve been to. The shop is run by one extremely kind gentleman. We both ordered the vegetarian meal set. Additionally the meal came with veggie soup and a green tea and pudding dessert (with soy milk) after the meal. Everything was phenomenal and we will be sure to return on our next adventure! 10/10...

Our first day in Takayama, and we’re SO HAPPY to discover this cosy cafe by chance. The setting is WONDERFUL n food DELICIOUS. The owner is a very nice young man who made us feel at home. What made it even more special for me were the touches of cat related displays. THANK U Cha-mame Cafe.🐈‍⬛🐈😻😻😻

Update: Came back again twice today — lunch n tea break — because this is where I feel totally relaxed n comfortable n love the food. Leaving for Niigata tomorrow, but Cha-mame Cafe will be what I’ll remember of my visit to Takayama as much as the city’s...
