It's very close to Otsuka station, and the room was spacious compared to room hotels in Tokyo - indeed, in most business hotels across the country! The room is also equipped with a bathroom that's also quite large compared to other hotels. The bed is nice and comfortable, and quite large for two. Every person gets one drink that must be taken from the fridge at the front desk, and there's free coffee and tea (also at the front desk) at certain hours.||||There are many shops, convenience stores, and restaurants in the area. Other than the Yamanote Line station, there's also a streetcar stop of the Toden Arakawa Line. ||||It's only one station away from major hub Ikebukuro.||||If you're a Muslim, the hotel is also close to the Otsuka Masjid.||||It feels a bit expensive compared to business hotels in smaller towns but that's just Tokyo for you.||||Oh, just a bit of note, there are front door and back door. If you come from the back door, there are only stairs to the front desk (located on the second floor of the building). But if you come from the front door, there's an elevator, but it only gets to the first floor by request. (So if you're bringing heavy luggage, you have to go to the second floor to ask the staff to operate the elevator first, then return to the first floor to retrieve your luggage using...
Read moreBooked the room mainly because price wise, extremely reasonable and being on the yamanote line (directly linked to Shinjuku, Shibuya, Tokyo Station, Ueno and most major station in Tokyo). Hotel is less then a 3 minutes walk away.||Surrounded by many convenience stores and 24 hour eateries such as Yoshinoya, Mcdonalds and Mos Burger.||||Initially booked the single room but was bummed up to the twin room at no extra charge.||The room was located on the 7th floor (the highest floor available) and despite cigarette smell lingering along the corridor, there was none in the room.||Room was comfortable and clean.||On days that I did not request housekeeping, they left for me clean towels, floormat, bathrobe, toothbrush and green tea in a bag outside my room. ||Staff does not seems to speak much/no english, although conversational wise, it was okay for me. There was strong wi-fi in the room and the heater was really strong (not centralised).||||Bad point wise, my room only had a door chain and seems like the door could only be locked from the outside. And because it is near the station, it can get a little noisy with the trains and traffic siren.||||Overall, I will probably...
Read more5 stars, because this hotel handily beats more expensive 3 or 4 star hotels. The price is cheap, the staff is friendly, and surprisingly given its dated looks, it is quite modern. In this hot summer I was pleasantly surprised to find a newly installed high-tech air conditioner in my room. If you want an electric toilet, it has one as well. This is all considering the old feels of the room, with old wallpaper, chairs, and with paneling and bed frames noticeably scratched all over the wooden surface. Opinions may vary on it, but I think it is intentionally left so to add to the charm (considering this hotel had the resource to install new elevator and air conditioners). What matters is I had a good sleep on the spring bed. In fact I actually like the old looks. Size-wise the room is spacious, more spacious than 4-star hotels I stayed in in the past. And it is clean. The hotel is conveniently situated very close to Otsuka Station on the important JR Yamanote line. From this station Ikebukuro is just one stop away. Otsuka itself is bustling with restaurants, cafes, and supermarkets so you won't have problem...
