There's no other way to start so I'm just going to go ahead and say this: this was, one of the best 4* hotel I stayed anywhere period. Yes, you may argue that, that then means that I haven't stayed at many 4* hotels and you'd be correct but, let me explain why.
Most choices I make when it comes to staying away from home, almost always leans towards an established MNC brand. But I'm fed up of getting short-changed with some of those brands in terms of what they offer in price and size. So I chose to elect a local brand i.e. a Japanese brand so here's why I chose Mitsui.
For starters, it's based in the perfect location. It's in a quiet area, away from the hustle bustle of the main Tokyo city i.e. Shinjuku and Shibuya but it's also a few stops away from the metro should you need accessing those aforementioned places.
The hotel itself is modern, newly built in a beautiful surrounding, situated right next to the Tokyo National Stadium. There is a guest lounge for arriving before check-in and a restaurant for if you feel famished.
The hotel is well presented and clean inside, and you can see the presentation of the hotel within the staff members who are always ready to help. There are four lifts to take you upto your floor which have never been too busy to use.
The room was beautifully decorated and felt very clean from the first foot set in. The bed and pillows were very comforting and the room was well insulated from the noise outside.
Couple of key highlights I found:
The amenities, especially the complimentary water, where topped up everyday.
The lights, air conditioning, DND etc is connected to an electronic tablet, which sits right next to the bed, so you have the comfort of adjusting the A/C and the moonlighting from the comfort of this centralised unit..
The balcony and the windows were kept very clean, so it was so easy to just to marvel at the beautiful skyline of Shinjuku, whether you chose to do that from in or out of your room.
Floors 2 and 8 have a vending machine, with an ice dispenser, with the former situated near the laundry room. And yes, this place does have a laundry room with four washer/dryers. The cost of self-laundry was (at the time of writing) ¥400 which includes washing and drying with a maximum load of 1KG. It's ¥500 if you want a 3KG wash.
Drawbacks: hard to say, but none really. Actually, if I had to nitpick, then I'd wish they had either a UK 3-pin socket or European standards amongst the Japanese Type A interface they had. But that's really my fault because I could've just bought the correct adapter.
Anyway...
To summarise, I am ecstatic that I chose to stay at Mitsui and more to the point, their Garden Hotel at Jingugaien. Would I come and stay here again? Yes, in a heartbeat. Don't dither whether you want to stay here or not, book it, stay and click the heart button on this review to...
Read moreWe just stayed at this hotel starting November 25, 2019 and was at this hotel for 8 days in total. We had two rooms that adjoined through the hallway, with a private entry. It was an amazing stay. We were a bit nervous as the hotel wasn’t open yet when we booked but it was business as usual on their 4th day of business when we arrived (They opened on November 22nd). Everyone was kind and accommodating. They communicated in English very well. The room had a bathroom area with a shower and tub behind one door and a heated toilet with bidet behind another door. Oh! The shower was fabulous! It was a waterfall spout that came straight down and was luxurious! The sink was outside of these rooms. The body soap, shampoo and conditioner provided was very nice to use. They had disposable shower caps, toothbrush and toothpaste, and these long rectangular disposable cloths that were handy to was my your back with easily! Also hair ties and face cleaning supplies. The face/hand soap was wonderful as well!
The lighting in the room was very high tech. You put your room key/card into a slot next to the door as you enter and keep it there while you are in the room. You ultimately control the lights and the room temperature controls from a digital monitor at the bedside. Once we figured that out, it was amazing. The monitor can bet set in many languages so it was easy for us to use.
The train stations are nearby (Sendagaya and Shinanomatchi) and the subway is right there (Kokuritsu-Kyogijo). You can go anywhere easily. Shinjuku is only 10 minutes away. It was nice to get out of the hustle and bustle of Shinjuku, and nearby Shibuya and Harajuku and be near both Shinjuku Gyoen and Meiji Jingū gaien parks. We will certainly return here for a future stay in Tokyo. If you are coming for the Olympics, this is a perfect place to stay!
There are some restaurants down by Sendagaya station that we enjoyed. There is a Lawsons and 7-11 there with a great selection of convenience foods. It is a 15 minute walk from the hotel.
Thank you so much for a wonderful stay and...
Read moreWe had an ok time in this hotel. ||When we first arrived in our room it was a little untidy: there was food and fake eyelashes on the floor, there was a hole on the bedlinen. We contacted housekeeping and they vacuumed the floor and changed the linen. So out we went to venture in the city. ||When we got back on the first night and started to unpack our stuff, we found a pair of used underwear on the shelf of the bathroom. This started to be unpleasant. We contacted the front desk. They came to take it away and gave us another room (on a higher floor) for our stay. We were also compensated in other ways. ||The start was a bit nasty and we felt discouraged. This was the third and last city on our first trip to Japan and everything before this had gone really well. Fortunately despite the rocky start this hotel was able to win us over. ||The new room was tidy and cleaned spot on daily (tho a little wear and tear could be seen for example on the walls - prior guests had probably hit a certain spot with their luggage more than once). The room had a balcony with gorgeous views over a little park next to the hotel and over the stadium. The bed was nice and tight and the pillows absolutley great! The lower pillow felt like it had some kind of grain inside and it kept the form really well. There was also a shower and a bath tub in the bathroom. Despite being next to s railway and a big road, the room was surprisingly quiet. ||The rooftop terrace was lovely, the public onsen amazing and very peaceful at times (of course it depends on the other guests how peaceful it will be). Apparently the men’s side was quite untidy around 9 pm on several nights. Breakfast was nice and eventho it’s not huge, we found everything we could ask for. ||The location was handy for us since we were able to walk to Harajuku daily, take the subway to both Shibuya and Shinjuku (Oedo line is easy to get to many places) and also the Imperial palace and Museum of Contemporary art. Also used the bus and the bus stop is quite near. ||The front desk staff was amazing from...
