We stayed at Ole Dume for a month when we arrived in Kenya for an 8-month work secondment based in various cities. ||||Overall we were impressed with the apartment. It was well furnished and equipped - we only ended up buying a coffee press, tin opener and small sharp knife to complement what was provided. The cleaning service was good, though I wouldn't say hugely thorough, and we appreciated the daily change of towels. We negotiated to have laundry included in the price of our stay - it's an efficient and good quality laundry service but hugely expensive if it's not included.||||The bed was ridiculously hard. In the end we put the decorative quilt from the top upside down (so we couldn't feel the sequins) under the sheet to make the bed passably comfortable, but really it needs some sort of mattress topper. The thick cover we had to keep us warm (a big, brown, heavy fleece) was too big and heavy, really a thin duvet would have been enough to guard against the cooler evenings.||||We did feel that the apartment needed a coat of paint and some general maintenance. Some of the window latches were broken, there were several chips out of floor tiles and many marks on the walls, including evidence of mosquito squashing by previous residents. It wouldn't take much to have a rolling maintenance and decorating programme to make sure the apartments remain top-quality, especially given how much each apartment costs.||||WiFi was terrible for our stay. One of us works 'from home' so needed decent internet, so we complained when all 4 of the networks proved unusable. They promised to fix it, and in fairness it did improve to be usable on one of the networks during the day when no-one else was around. However, evenings and weekends still proved impossible so we ended up buying a USB dongle to use at an additional charge to us.||||Staff - including the askaris - were super friendly and always happy to call us a cab, or help us carry up our shopping or whatever else we needed. For Nairobi in particular this is really unusual and really appreciated. The restaurant staff got to know us and what we regularly ordered when sitting by the pool which was a nice touch.||||The restaurant is good value for the basic but decent food they serve. Vegetarian options are limited but available. The milkshakes aren't that good, but could sell really well if they were made with fresh fruit instead of syrup. The salon was... interesting. One of us visited for a haircut and it proved to be a pretty painful experience, maybe because mzungu hair isn't often presented for a cut there?||||The gym is fairly well equipped, though the pickier of the two of us was frustrated with the lack of rowing machine and free weights (he injured his elbow using one of the machines). But the staff are friendly and helpful no matter what the level of fitness or gym experience.||||The pool area is great for sitting out to catch some rays. It gets busy around lunchtime and 3pm when the kids are around for swimming lessons with 'coach'. This means its a bit noisy and splashy, but not prohibitively so.||||||We felt that, for what you get, the cost is quite high to stay at Ole Dume, but then Nairobi is expensive for just about everything! In all, we felt really at home in our apartment and the complex, and enjoyed our stay. Our thanks...
Read moreOn the whole I had a pretty enjoyable stay at Ole. I stayed there for 10 days and on arrival was taken to my apartment which was on the third floor. Having viewed an apartment before booking I wasn't disappointed with the one I stayed in. What did disappoint me was the amount of mosquitoes in the apartment but no spray available nor any necessary complimentary coffee or tea available for use in the morning after arrival. Being self catering apartments I thought that the staff would supply these bare essentials to have at least a drink other than a bottle of water. After speaking at reception about the plague of mosquitoes they did arrange for the plug in type repellant but I had already bought while stocking up on groceries but used those as time passed. The restaurant which I tried for breakfast first morning was another mosquitoe plagued room which I couldn't get out of quickly enough and as the breakfast room seemed not very busy I think they could spray the place when they arrive at 6am and by the time diners come to use the place the smell has gone as have the mossies. The apartment was adequately furnished and a very comfortable living space. I didn't have any problems with WiFi or TV it was enough to keep me entertained though I have to say the picture from DSTV seems pretty poor or that may be the aerial installation needing attention as some of the channels are unwatchable. Hot water for the bath or shower is a great attraction for most europeans and it is there in the apartments. Staff are very friendly and helpful, noise didn't affect me, kids having swimming lessons was a joy to watch them enjoy themselves, the pool area did attract quite a few visitors during my stay. The gym seems to be frequented by lots of females in the afternoons with quite decent music for their aerobics or zumba or whatever it is they do there. All in all a very pleasant atmosphere and for me an above average...
Read moreI recently stayed at Ole Dume apartments for six months and would highly recommend it for business or holiday travelers. The rooms are spacious and clean. The hot water and electricity are consistent, which is often not the case in Nairobi. When the power goes out in the neighborhood, the generator immediately kicks in. The apartment has excellent security. ||||The location is great. It is walking distance to the neighborhood markets and malls, including Yaya, Prestige, Valley Arcade and Junction. The restaurant, pool, spa and gym are additional benefits. The gym was the highlight for me. It is staffed with very skilled professional trainers who work with each individual to develop and maintain a training program. The gym, including an excellent spin class on Thursdays and Zumba on Saturdays, is included. The fitness trainers and other Ole Dume staff are professional, friendly and responsive to client needs. I was away from my family on an extended business trip and the Ole Dume team became like family to me. They made sure I had what I needed and ensured my safety. ||||I highly recommend Ole...
