Unreliable and Unprofessional – Avoid Dallago Tours for Trips in Kenya or Tanzania
I had high hopes for my trip to East Kenya, covering Amboseli and Diani Beach, but Dallago Tours managed to turn what should have been a photography trip into an extremely frustrating and expensive experience.
The root of the problem was their employee, Jacob, who demonstrated an appalling lack of professionalism from day one. While I initially chose to overlook his dismissive attitude, it quickly became clear that he was not client-oriented in the slightest. Instead, Jacob acted arrogantly, as if he knew better than his guests, completely disregarding my requests and preferences.
The most upsetting incident occurred when I requested an early departure for a game drive to maximize photography opportunities in the best morning light. Jacob outright refused, insisting we leave no earlier than 7 AM, dismissively claiming that he knew best when to go. Later that evening, I followed up with a polite message, reiterating my request to start early, but it was completely ignored. The next morning, I was left waiting at reception from 5:30 AM, while Jacob casually appeared at breakfast at 7:30 AM. In the end, I had to make alternative arrangements on my own with a local Maasai guide who provided a proper open vehicle for photography—an additional cost that I had to cover myself.
In fact, I ended up paying nearly $3,500 USD for just two nights in Amboseli because I was forced to cancel the remainder of my trip, including my stay in Diani Beach, and fly home to Europe early. This was an incredibly disappointing outcome for a safari I had carefully planned and fully paid for in advance. Despite my attempts to resolve the situation professionally, Dallago Tours failed to provide an acceptable solution or compensation.
In short, Dallago Tours is completely unreliable. Their lack of professionalism, combined with the disrespectful and dismissive behavior of their staff, ruined what was supposed to be an unforgettable experience. If you value your time, money, and peace of mind, I strongly recommend booking with a different tour operator.
In response to Dallago Tours' reply:
Thank you for your response, but it only reinforces my disappointing experience.
Your guide, Jacob, clearly does not understand animal behavior in Amboseli or the importance of timing for photographers. I was not an ordinary tourist; I am a professional wildlife photographer with specific requirements that were completely disregarded. As a result, I missed critical opportunities that directly impacted my work and income.
More concerning was the conduct of your Managing Director, Mr. Martin Njagi. After I raised my complaints, I requested a 50% refund and reimbursement for additional expenses I incurred to salvage my game drives. Mr. Martin Njagi repeatedly assured me, saying, “I will pay you all.” Despite these promises, no payment was made before my departure. His empty assurances were misleading and appear to have been a deliberate attempt to deceive me.
All communication and evidence have been documented. If the refund of $1,940 is not processed immediately, I will pursue legal action and file a formal complaint with the relevant Kenyan authorities against Mr. Martin Njagi and Dallago Tours.
I had hoped to resolve this amicably, but Dallago Tours has left...
Read moreWe wholeheartedly recommend Dallago for a great Kenyan safari.
My wife and I chose the 5 day flying safari for our honeymoon, staying 2 nights in Amboseli and 2 nights in Maasai Mara and Dallago made the whole trip as smooth as possible, including pick up from the international airport upon our arrival in Kenya, arranging all of our internal flights and safari lodges, and a dedicated private tour guide (just for the two of us!) in each reserve. All of this was on offer at a very reasonable price - much more so than some other safari operators we contacted, who were looking to charge around 3 x the price...
The safari itself was fantastic and we saw most of the big 5, as well as lots of other animals, along with a beautiful view of Mount Kilimanjaro whilst we were in Amboseli. Amongst others, we saw plenty of lions, elephants, giraffes, a leopard, wildebeest, zebra, water buffalo, hyenas, hippos, crocodiles, monkeys, gazelles, flamingos, spoonbills, kingfishers and more! We particularly enjoyed our safari of the Amboseli reserve with David, whose knowledge of the hundreds of different animals was second-to-none and David made our safari a really enjoyable experience.
In terms of the safari lodges, we stayed at the Serena Amboseli and Serena Mara lodges. These were both lovely and unique in their own ways - both right in the reserves which meant no long treks to see the animals on the game drives. We particularly loved the monkeys which wandered around the Amboseli lodge and the stunning view of the Mara from the Mara lodge. The meals at the lodges were very good, buffet-style meals with a good selection of English / Indian and local meals, and both restaurants had a 'live' pasta bar if you wanted something cooked fresh. My wife is vegetarian and did not struggle for something to eat.
We have already recommended Dallago to some of our family (who wanted to experience a safari after seeing our photos). We will definitely look to book with Dallago again on a future safari.
Thank you very much to David, Martin and their team for such a...
Read moreWe had an amazing time in Kenya. Our tour in-charge Ivy Martin has gone above and beyond to make our stay in Kenya smooth. She was prompt and very professional in communication. Leonardo(alias Daddy), our tour driver/guide was brilliant. He was highly experienced and very determined to accomplish in showing us the best of our Safari. As I was holding a professional camera he made sure the game was happening on my side so I am close to the scene, which was very thoughtful of him. He made sure I got the best shots and satisfied. He is very tolerant and patient with the kids and have genuinely enjoyed being with a family of 4 adults and 4 children. If I ever I plan to visit Tanzania I would book with Dallago and Leonardo only. I have lost a ring in one of the hotels we stayed in Masai and Dallago tours have made sure I receive it and have tracked the package until I have received it. Thank you Ivy...
