Hello everyone! I want to share you how this hotel made such a difference in my trip. I love the people who work here. The customer service is great and very accommodating. Honestly, none of my requests were turned down. I think that is good for me. But please be respectful of staff and don’t pressure them to do things that might jeopardize their jobs. I was referred here by my good friends in ELD and I even extended my stay. My check-in was breakfast buffet and can I tell you how ROCKING the food was? I LOVED the afternoon snack buffet. I honestly loved the way they made chai. I even bought dinner here twice and worth every penny! Food they served was hearty, delicious, and always new! The views were great. The waitresses had a warm smile (I wish I can remember their names!), one housekeeper was super cool and he educated me a lot about the people of Mombasa— how unlike the rest of Kenya, Mombasa and the coast welcomes more diversity and there is less tribalism. I really felt that! I also loved the desk ladies! And I absolutely loved the bartender. Kenyans love their liquor strong and even though I come from Canada, out cocktails here are sweeter in comparison. In many places, I’d end up wasting shillings on these bitter, bitter cocktails. I forgot his name but I nervously requested if he can make it sweet. I must say… most bartenders take at least two times to get my drinks right but this gentleman right here…! WAS PERFECT!!!! He made my drink so perfect I was sooo grateful to him. I even asked for another one hahaha! I asked him how he made it so perfect and he said he’s been bartending for over thirty years and he loves making drinks for his customers; he loves to see their smile. I must say, Kenya Bay is so lucky don’t let this man retire! Hahah! Give him a raise! I would like to commend the operations manager, Rashid. He is so great and supportive. I thought I had lost my pair of pants and he helped me look for it— and I did!
And also, I met the lady who worked in their boutique shop. Lilian. She became my friend. She helped me find the right people to do my hair and she helped me negotiate prices. She looked out for me! She referred her husband as my boda-boda driver and he saved me the hassle of using Wasili (Kenyan uber). I also felt safe and he did helped me around Marikiti. I must say, I was so lucky and blessed to have met all these people. It made my travelling become a traveller’s paradise! (I saved a lot of dollars too haha!)
Anyway, this was all the way back in November 2022. But I will always look back to this time with so much happiness inside.
PS The other manager (I believe), Harbinder is a great guy too! Very...
Read moreThis hotel has the potential to be good, but it’s not there yet. Lots of work is required to bring it to a good standard, and it could all be done quickly and easily. I had a deluxe room and it was fairly well appointed. Downsides were that the smart TV only had four working channels (two news, one sport and one just adverts). It did have Netflix and YouTube but there was no internet connection to it so pointless (even connecting it to the WiFi didn’t work).|The entire resort needs tidying up. Buildings desperately need repainting and gardens need work (at least cut the grass!!). The pool bar was out of service for my entire two week stay. Buffet food was generally poor and very small selection, apart from breakfast which was good. I was there at the end of the low season and the hotel was quiet so on one hand I can understand their poor choice of food if the hotel isn’t at full capacity, but the hotel business has peaks and troughs every year which should not impact on the service and availability to guests. Some days there was no buffet at all and staff just walked around the pool and asked guests what they wanted for lunch from a one page printed ‘menu’ with two or three choices. Not good enough. |Evening entertainment was pretty much non existent. They had traditional dancing or acrobats every other night for about 20 minutes. |Location is good, as is the beach. There are many restaurants and bars very close by that are sooo much better than the hotel offering. |Beach boys hassle through the day if you set foot on the sand but that’s everywhere and not just at this hotel. Be polite and say no, and they’ll leave you alone after a few days. There are ‘working girls’ on the beaches at night but again, just be polite and say you’re not interested and they’ll not bother you.|Staff at the hotel were the best thing - very very good indeed.|Overall, I wouldn’t recommend Kenya Bay but if you must go then don’t do all inclusive as it’s simply...
