I stayed at this amazing family run BnB in Karakol. I honestly had the best host I’ve ever experienced.||Navigating the city and public transport is not at all easy, especially as someone who doesn’t speak the Kyrgyz or Russian. But the host was incredible helpful and friendly. He gave me thoughtful and detailed advice on planning my trips, including which minibuses (marshrutkas) to take, which cultural experiences to try, and even which exact side of the market to find the bus I needed (which is definitely not obvious!). On top of that, he would walk me to the minibus stop, wait with me for over 10 minutes, and explain to the driver where I needed to be dropped off.||The BnB itself is walled in and locked at all times, so it felt very safe. But I never got the impression that the area or the country was unsafe. The BnB also has a beautiful courtyard full of plants, and there’s a place to do laundry, which was very much needed in my case. In my 10 day trip around the country, this was the only time I came across something where I could wash my clothes.||The host was always incredibly thoughtful! For example he would stay up until guests returned in the evening. There was one night when a young group of guests came back at 3 in the morning, and he still stayed up for them. The next day, he mentioned it with a smile and was very understanding. We had many pleasant chats throughout the day. He was always warm, always around, and happy to help.||Breakfast was included, very filling, and served at very reasonable hours I could decide myself.||At first, I didn’t intend on staying the entire 4 days of my time in Karakol at this BnB, but I definitely got won over.||What really surprised me was that when I left Karakol, he offered to help me on the rest of my journey. He said I could call him at any point if I ran into trouble and he would speak to locals on the phone if I needed help communicating. This was my last stop before heading back to Bishkek and then flying home so I didn't make use of it, but this offer was really kind and very appreciated.||This was hands down the best service I’ve ever received in my life. The price was very fair, also the location was good and quiet. I genuinely can’t recommend it enough.||6/5 stars!||Disclaimer: Chatgpt helped me correct the spelling and sentence structure in this review as English is not my...

Read moreVery clean, very knowledgeable and helpful host, good price, hard to find. I would absolutely stay there again if I'm ever back in Karakol. No complaints about any part of this place but the host is really the best part. He was extremely knowledgeable and very eager to help answer pretty much any questions. He knows Karakol well, where to get the best bread, which bank has the best exchange rates, where to go for various supplies (we were bikepacking). He recommended a place for dinner, called to make sure they were open since it was late, and gave us a very detailed description of the entrance which I know sounds weird but it was actually pretty hard to find. He also knows the surrounding area very well and recommended many sites that would be along our route to check out on the way. All of this info came with very little prompting. We were there in June 2023 and it was not easy to find. It was on the corner of two mostly unlit dirt roads in pretty bad condition so it really seems like the middle of a largely vacant residential neighborhood. It is exactly where google says it is but the only sign was piece of printer paper in a second story window and even exactly which door to knock on was not super clear. Once you get in, he has a large courtyard and the hostel is more like a hotel with 3 or 4 stories but from the street you would never guess. We found out that Karakol was in the process of a major public works upgrade project so all the roads were torn up and the host was in the process of some repairs and repainting which I think was part of the lack of signage. All of my comments about finding this place could be obsolete...
