Megah D'Aru Hotel — Hotel in Borneo

I arrived in the KK airport and though they had committed to send a shuttle for me upon my arrival, there was none. I tried reaching them through e-mail but did not get a response.||||I ended up booking a Grab car, and when I arrived at the hotel it seems like I was not expected. This, despite several e-mail communications back and forth where they even asked for my flight details.||||Ok, the details:||||Room has the essentials - toiletries (soap and shampoo only), towels, good-sized bed, water heater, etc. There seems to be provisions for smoking as there was an ashtray in the room.||||The place has a '70s vibe to it. There's a waft of "old place" smell, but it is clean enough. It is near the airport which means sometimes the noise from planes lifting off can disturb your sleep, but it is not too often. ||||There are A LOT of local restaurants and convenience stores in the area, very local vibe. People often spoke to me in the local language thinking I am a resident.||||Breakfast is the same daily. I liked the Mee Goreng, there are scrambled eggs, sausages, rice, toast and coffee as well.||||Wifi access is available only at the lobby.||||Heading back to the airport the shuttle driver will not help you with the luggage. ||||The checkout experience was good, though, and the lady behind the counter even extended my checkout time.||||All in all I would recommend based on proximity to local stores and restaurants. I would have given it a higher rating if my check-in experience was better and if the shuttle service was provided as they committed...

I use booking.com, and communicate with hotel through the email from the site. It's very fast response. Hotel provide to and from airport free shuttle. Hotel van driver hold my name outside the departure exit and greet us friendly. It's only 5 mins drive away from airport. There have many coffee shop (halal or non halal) and chinese restaurant just next to the hotel. This area still have many hotel look great from the outside but please search carefully as some don't have lift, but this hotel have lift. Breakfast time start at 7:30am, so if you leave early and your room include breakfast, you can ask hotel to get reading your take away breakfast which is only sandwiches and mineral water, but it's better than nothing. You can find coin payment laundry shop and convenience shop next to it. You can purchase cheaper things/mee cup from the corner retail shop instead of go to Orange. ||The hotel is under upgrade progress at the moment, so little bit painting smell. The bedsheet and room look old but still acceptable as we only spend one night. ||Our water heater not function, hotel staff act very fast and repair it on the spot without trouble us to change...

I've stayed before covid. Love the room. The cleanliness and the utilities are well maintained. The breakfast options not very appetizing.. The front desk are a little nosy. Warning to all muslims who stay here. I think it was around 2-3am pegawai JAIS (muslim raid for unmarried couple) came banging to open door. I woke up thinking it was my door being banged but it was the neighbour's door.
