Monocolo Boutique Hotel — Hotel in Borneo

My second time staying here. The hotel has its own aesthetic & the room was clean & comfortable. I enjoyed that.

Came for the second time bcs I had a very good experience previously but I guess I got unlucky the second time.

I came check in late with a friend, @ 12am just 2 girls. the designated parking lots at the left of the building was full. There were some parkings too right infront of the hotel, there were painted boxes but was told that it’s not suitable for parking.

The only “parking” was at a very hilly place, it’s not even proper place bcs no box or what so ever. I turned 3x wondering where to park bcs the area was very steep & I didnt feel secure to park there.

I went in & tried to talk to the frontdesk in charge — Mr Eddy, asking for help & consideration to let us park at the front lobby instead since there were empty spaces, theres even an empty lot right beside the oku parking. Was given the rudest service, no sorry, no kind smile, no empathy, not trying to help us at all. It was frustrating & disappointing. We reserved long before coming here as we had a conference prior to check in. & for the parking, it’s at a steep place if anything happens, it will be on us.

I ended up parking my car across the hotel, had to cross the roads for my car safety.

Honestly, I don’t expect for a vip treatment or valet service or what not. But if the communication and gesture were warm & understanding, I won’t be writing this long and letting people know my frustration. I expect the bare minimum of a warm smile, an apology for unable to fulfill my wish. I will settle for it. I will not mind at all if the communication was better.

I slept with deep resentment bcs I cant get over how rude the transaction was. Prior check out, I had the time to talk to the manager, Pn Diana regarding this issue. I’m glad and I applaud the warm service and understanding. I hope this matter will not be taken lightly & better training for the staffs should be done. Hospitality is definitely lacking.

It’s a good hotel overall, but without great service it will mean nothing.

📌Service : Fast and friendly Fast check in, iron and iron board sent to my room within 3 minutes as promised. Fast deposit refund as well. Staffs are smiling and welcoming I was provided an extra ladies bag after 1 round of housekeeping session without requesting! Good observation, the staff must have noticed that from my belongings laying on the table ❤️

📌Cleanliness : 10/10 Newly built, furnitures are still in good condition Housekeeping is nicely done

📌Room quality Amenities are complete, hair dryer is available too We are provided 2 face masks as well! Pillow are soft but has thickness, it doesn't sink down, which is nice for my neck ( was staying at Hilton KK and they are using feather pillows but it sinks fast and flat, not suitable for my neck)

📌Location : Spacious single building, outside of town center but near (few minutes drive only). I recommend you to take car or grab to town

📌 Parking Outdoor parking (free) More than Hilton KK. Can park at least 10-15 cars beside the hotel

Definitely worth the price if you're looking for an affordable yet clean and trendy stay.

👀 Some minor hiccups :

1. A little disappointed when I found that the TV channels are very very limited and unable to Bluetooth/ connect to my phone. Can only entertain myself on my phone during the stay
2. The size of mini fridge is larger than the cabinet, cabinet door cannot...

Staying in Monocolo Boutique Hotel was perhaps the best decision that we made on this trip to Kota Kinabalu. Strategic location, easy access to everywhere. Cost us only RM6 to the Gaya Street Sunday Market for Grab car service. One of the famous nostalgic kopitiam ‘’kok man" with nice fish paste & beef gon lao mian is just a stone throw away.

Room is clean, cozy and well equipped, bed is soft & comfy. The amenities provided exceeded my expectations, they even provide mask & hand sanitiser.

Check in process is smooth and I love their welcome drinks ! The staffs was amazing, their smile and warm welcome & eagerness to ensure our stay was perfect really left us with a great impression. We love the breakfast provided.Truly enjoyed the simple but satisfying egg mayo, ham & cheese sandwich ! It was a great way to kick start the day.

To Erica, Nora and team, thank you very much for the amazing and excellent customer service. For that, this hotel definitely deserves a 5 🌟. Will definitely recommend it to friends.
