I have stayed in this hotel very recently for 6 nights while in KK.|While my experiences at this hotel was mainly positive, there were a few issues that I am going to address here.|Positives:|1. Nice staff especially Victor and Orlando, who were very helpful|2. Clean room with amenities (safe, tea/coffee/kettle, comfortable bed, nice bathroom/shower, good wardrobe. fridge to store bottled water that the hotel supply.|3. Surau (prayer room) on the 4th floor, which was convenient.|4. Cleaners doing a great job making the room nice and tidy.|5. Decent WiFi connection (although occasionally cuts out).||Negative:|Communication - this is their big downfall that cost them the extra star that I would have gave them.|Communication has been the real issue with this hotel unfortunately but before I do highlight the issues, they did contact me via WhatsApp and were very helpful with enquiries or so I thought. They arranged airport transfer to hotel via taxi with the driver putting my name waiting for me at the Arrivals Hall. They mentioned that I need to pay MYR 25 per person at their restaurant for breakfast but otherwise go for the cheaper option at the Cafe called Tapau Bah and mentioned that Tapau Bah take credit cards.|However, as I got to the Arrivals Halls, there was no one there to pick me up after waiting for 20-odd minutes so I ended up catching my own taxi but at a cheaper price than what the hotel quoted. As I got to the hotel around 10.30pm after a very long journey from the UK, I have been told that I had to pay MYR 100 deposit in cash upfront, which I didn't have enough Ringgits as the banks and money exchange were closed at that time so it caused me quite a bit of inconvenience but I wasn't informed at all about this and they should have told me this in advance so that I would have had the deposit ready - most hotels take the deposit through credit cards but not with Oceania I'm afraid - however, I did find an alternative by giving a £20 note as a cash deposit, which was worth MYR 114 so we got that issue resolved. Next morning, I asked about the breakfast and where the hotel restaurant is but I was informed that there is no restaurant at the hotel to have breakfast even though I was informed on WhatsApp that it was MYR 25 at their restaurant. Now there is a restaurant next door to the reception but I'm not sure if it belongs to the hotel or not as no staff member mentioned it. So they said I have breakfast at Tapau Bah Cafe across the road as it is cheaper and I was informed that they take credit cards - however, I've found out that they only take cash which wasn't a problem initially - until became a problem so whenever I had 50 to 20 MYR cash and tried to buy something with that at Tapau Bah, they couldn't change it and this has happened twice to me which then begs the question on why the cafe did not have a card set up in the first place - however, this was recommended by the hotel itself and quite frankly it was a poor recommendation by them. However, I did find a gem of a place within a minute walking distance from Tapau Bah called Secret Recipe - the only down side is that Secret Recipe opens at 10.00am but at least Tapau Bah opens up before 7.00am. However, Secret Recipe does have a lot more variety and much friendlier staff too so I think the hotel needs to liaise with them instead, unless Tapau Bah can get the card situation sorted out.||So all in all, this hotel is very good but they need to fix the issues with communications which could have nearly ruined my stay at KK but thankfully it...
Read moreMy experience staying in Oceania Hotel is definitely not good. I have stayed in many places in kota kinabalu and this is one of the poorer hotels I have been to.
The location is very quiet at night and not convenient to tourist areas. Walking is not advisable, you need to drive or take grab to get around.
There are no security, only front desk staff. At night, there are many questionable people standing around the hotel. Security of the hotel guests is not looked into.
Rooms are poorly maintained. Water from the tap is brown sometimes. Aircon in my sister room is not cold, very musky. The safe in the room is spoilt. The windows are not soundproof, the nearby construction at night until 12midnight kept me awake until I had to put on my earbuds to sleep.
You can see from the video how noisy the construction was.
If you are able to accept the above conditions, then this hotel is suitable for you.
In response to the owner question, the room with issue during our stay is room 109 and room 118.
Room 109 aircon is musky and not cold. Room 118 safe is spoilt and water from tap is brown when open. In addition, Housekeeping did not sweep and mop floor, only change towels and fold bedsheets for room 109.
I understand from what you stated that you have a good security team on standby, but the questionable people standing in front of your hotel entrance smoking and talking loudly does not give any sense of security to your guests.
Hopefully my experience may help...
Read moreThis hotel is sooooo underrated.|Firstly, the team is very responsive when it comes to WhatsApp texts. This is excellent!|We received a warm welcome from Victor at Front Desk. |Do you know how far they go when it comes to customer service? Let me tell you.|I made a last minute booking (arriving on 29th Dec 2023, staying for 3 nights). I informed the team via WhatsApp that we would be driving from Lahad Datu and would only arrive at about 730 pm.|My husband, my daughter and I were exhausted and could not wait to have a good rest in our air-conditioned room. And then I thought, sigh... I would have to wait at least 15 minutes for the room to be cool.|To my delight and surprise, Victor already placed a key card on the slot in the room earlier that day, and the room was at perfect temperature when we entered! Well done Victor!|The housekeeping team did a great job too in cleaning the room and replenishing the toiletteries. |The staff were all friendly and helpful. Without hesitation, a female staff (I cannot recall her name) lent me her USB adapter when I told her I needed to go out to buy it. Saving me time and the hassle of going out to to purchase it.|We had a great experience and I highly recommend everyone to choose Oceania Hotel when they go to Kota Kinabalu. I definitely will...
