PERFECT for what I wanted - a peaceful, comfortable, inviting haven - and exceeded my expectations BY FAR. And I travel a lot and have also worked in a 5* deluxe hotel in Knightsbridge, London.
What people say is true:
The attention to detail in my chalet was outstanding. I was in Number 2, I believe, a cute wooden hut by the entrance which was very quiet as it was away from the pool and bar area. The bed and pillows were generous and very comfy. A beach bag with mat, beach towels, towels for the pool, trendy dressing gowns, slippers, umbrella, mosquito repellent for indoors and out, bug spray (I didn't see any bugs), snacks, cold and room temperature water, hairdryer etc. A LOT for what you pay. This extended to the bar and pool area, in terms of details to make your stay extra very comfortable and pleasant. Mosquito repellent, if you need it behind the bar, and the openness to help from all the staff.
The staff, without exception, were extremely welcoming and friendly without ever being annoying. The cats were very sweet and again, didn't pester for food. I got to meet the resident chicken, Matilda, and the monkey feeding on fruit trees next door.
The pool and bar is as beautiful as it looks in the pics. The tasty nasi goreng was cooked by a proper Aunty, and not a disinterested chef. The coffees and beverages prepared and presented well. And everything was very affordable. Healthy "Western" breakfasts of fruit, yoghurt, toast etc. I also got laundry done and it was quick, helpful and cheap too.
Even if it's a small resort, there are nooks to sit and relax in various places - as private or as connected as you wish. There is a library and a tiny gym with weights, and two (?) basic machines.
If you want to eat at a local joint (warung), there is one 2 mins away. Also cheap and freshly prepared food. The beach is also 2 mins away on foot. You can see it from the pool.
It is beautiful, down to earth and human, not slick and corporate but everything I saw was well maintained. There will be some mosquitoes maybe at dusk on the grounds but it was very manageable.
I was lucky they had a room, and I have already recommended it to all my friends and I...
Read moreEagleye appears to be a decent place to stay as a guest, but my experience as a staff member or volunteer was far from satisfactory. The owner, Suziee, demonstrated a lack of understanding when it came to labor work and respecting her staff. During my month of volunteering, I was joined by another individual.
Firstly, Suziee exploited the work at her establishment. She charged guests a Western/European price for food, beverages, and accommodation but only paid her staff a monthly wage of 1300RM, which amounts to around 250 Euros for full-time work. As a volunteer, I worked four hours a day in exchange for a room that had not been cleaned for quite some time. Additionally, she mentioned that she could cover our food expenses, which amounted to a mere 10RM per day (approximately 2 Euros). On the occasions when I had to work extra hours, she compensated us with the same hourly rate of 10 ringgit.
Suziee fostered a toxic work environment by encouraging her staff to spy on each other, creating an atmosphere void of trust and respect, always mentioning the name of “eagleye” as there is always someone watching and many times mentioning cctvs. Despite my efforts to promote a positive atmosphere, it proved impossible under these circumstances. She exploited both me and my friend who were volunteering with me, abruptly asking us to leave on the same day when she no longer required our assistance.
Furthermore, Suziee consistently guilt-tripped us by emphasizing that we were staying for free, eating for free, and utilizing her electricity and bike. She frequently used possessive language, lacking any form of respect or appreciation, and seemed to have difficulty understanding the people around her.
I feel compelled to share this review as a warning to those considering volunteering or working at Eagleye. It is important for potential guests to be aware that not all places that appear pleasant based on reviews and service have a positive internal...
Read moreAfter much research, I chose Eagleye for my 6 night stay in Langkawi. It was absolutely the perfect choice. Friendly staff, quiet and carefully created location and well equipped, clean comfortable room with AC and fan. The room also had a fridge, kettle and basic utensils/crockery plus a toilet/shower. Filtered water is freely available at all times.||Staff were more than willing to share their knowledge of the island and suggest options. As I hired a car, I was able to get around very easily. Driving is easy in Langkawi and very safe. It is also cheap. ||Having visited the touristy area around Cenang and most other parts of the island, I am so glad that I chose to stay in this area. It is a quiet, much less touristy part of the island and feels much more authentic. It also feels very safe. There are some good places to eat close by especially the Warung Jalak Lenteng restaurant just round the corner which provided great local food at a very cheap price. I ended up sat there most evenings enjoying the sea view as dusk descended. I also ate good food at Eagleye. Scarborough Fish and Chips is overrated in my opinion. The other thing about the area I loved was the beach. It is a 2 min walk and if you then walk to the right it takes you along the stunning Tanjung Rhu Beach. Most of it (particularly in front of the 4 Seasons resort) is deserted and it felt like I had the beach to myself for much of the time. A short drive to Rhu Cape takes you to another beach which is popular for swimming and is a fab spot. There are lots of activities to do on the island and I enjoyed the Mangrove tour and the Skycab.||Would highly recommend Eagleye when visiting...
