Me and husband recently stayed at Pelangi for 3D2N. I contacted Sharon for the booking in May. Booking process was simple and easy
We add on the land transfer from Kuala Terengganu to Merang jetty. The night before, their staff Huey contacted me to share about the land transfer. In the morning itself also he keep updating me about the bus arrival time. The land transfer was by a big bus. The bus picked us up from the hotel at 7.50am
We arrived at Pelangi Jetty Merang around 9.20am. It is a small jetty, with toilets and a small shop selling hats, beachwear etc but no food. Merang Jetty fee of RM5/pax needs to be paid to the staff there. We boarded the boat at 9.50am and arrived the resort at 10.30am
Staffs helped to take your luggages from boat to the resort. We went to register at reception first and paid the Marine Conservation fee (Local adult RM5/pax), joined the short briefing at bistro and went back to reception to collect our room key. Then we collected our luggages from the bistro and headed to our room
We took the Seaview room, we got B11 room located in block B which was directly in front of the bistro. I feel block A view of the beach should be nicer
The room was clean and comfortable. Separated shower and toilet with sink located outside. Room came with safety box, hangers, body wash, towels and air dehumidifier. Got qiblat direction on the ceiling too 👍
Balcony got 2 chairs and drying rack
Meals are provided in the package. All meals are served at their cafeteria. It was not free seating, they have assigned you based on room table. Some day maybe you need to share tables with other group due to table capacity
We need to share tables only on day 1. Then we got our own tables
Main dish is served ala carte and they got additional dish on the buffet area also.
You can request to refill the main dish if needed no issue. The portion of the food seemed a bit small but if you eat it together with the buffet food actually it will be more than enough. We enjoyed the food so much we almost never felt hungry here haha. I only requested to add on the fried squid because it was super good!!! On dinner day 2, we rejected the grilled fish because we were already full. Pelangi really fed us well
If you dont like the food served in cafeteria, you can always go buy from Pelangi bar and bistro. We always wanted to try it but since we were always full we only managed to order fries and mocktail just to experience it. The bar had live band until 10.30pm if im not mistaken
Convenience store is located next to the bistro. Can buy mineral water, snacks, ice cream, souvenirs from there. Price is not super expensive, big mineral bottle is RM5
3 snorkelling trips are included in the package. We only joined 1 trip on day 2 morning (because we had add on another full day snorkeling trip on day 3 after checkout with another agent). We went to turtle bay in 1 big boat but it was not very crowded
Life jacket and snorkel gear can be rented at the resort. Their charge is per stay, not per day which is good
The beach in front of the resort is good for snokeling too. We managed to spot baby shark and stingray too
Overall we enjoyed our stay so much. We would love to come back. Thank you so much to all the staffs in Pelangi, everyone was very helpful and friendly. From the booking, jetty, reception, dining area, convenience store, snorkeling trip and all!
Improvement points I can suggest is to conduct the arrival briefing using megaphone and maybe to put rules that all guests to wear clothes in the dining area. It was not very pleasant to see a shirtless man with hairy armpit at the buffet area...
Read moreNever again.... unless ...||Arrived Oct 1 Room A13. Facing a little brook with like belukar. Clean no smell a bit of mosquitoes in the evenings. Little glimpss of the sea front at the extreme side. Not exactly a good location for a beach resort. Usually the cheapest room.||They have a quaint dedicated ferry terminal along the banks of an estuary in Kampung Merang Trengganu Malaysia along with the other resorts which too had their own. The Redang Resorts dedicated jetties are snuggled behind a curtain of Bakau (Mangroves). Cute.||Sea transfer was by a well kept clean 12 passenger speed boat. Friendly and helpful staff. 35 minutes or so comfortable ride across the South China Sea continental shelf. Gentle blue waves on that day.||We Arrived! (“yay”)and the dream holiday continues, clear gentle waves splashing on shore, beautiful stretch of beach with fine golden sands. Not many fishes in the waters though unlike Tioman. Pelangi has its own floating pontoon ‘landing jetty’. Wonderful wonderful. | |Ok resort looks good enough like any other medium cost resort wooden structure and all. Environment generally clean. Spotted some cute little squirrels. Wonder where they came from. First item of the day we had Group briefing on timing of meals and some basic things do’s and dont’s. Yes briefing. Back to school camp. Not exactly a paradise island welcome by a lovely hostess. Comes with this territory. ||Not sure whether we were unlucky and only one who had a bad room or the whole resort is a has been. Didn’t nother to snoop. Dirty smelly room with filthy bathroom that smells like a sewer. Asked for another room (“Don’t have?!”). Asked for upgrade (“no cannot!”) can pay a bit more? Hmmm. “All full” or so they say. ||Managed to get the crew to help clean up and room was thereafter barely more livable. Less smelly but some still unsighily. OMG 3 nights. ||Ok then have to make the best out of whatever situation Life lands us! (P.S. Try not too buy package. But its an adventure, you’ll never know what you’ll get ha ha ha.)||Ok on with the show .... ermm ... holiday. Make sure you go for meals at appointed time otherwise nothing to eat or drink except water and alcohol. But there are nearby places to eat in other resorts. Pay more lah ok.||Facilities? Oops! Very very very basic!. Not congruent with the price paid. Of course no tea or coffee making facilites in room or out except “The Canteen” at appointed meal times. Basic you know Basic! Hee hee ok got it. ||The bar opens after 12noon only alcohols some bites nothing memorable. No coffee tea at the Bar at all sorry ya.||Food served is hard to comment because tastes experience and expectations varies. From a Malaysian foodie point of view in Pelangi some food served are good but mostly a bit ‘Bleh’||Service level a 2. Thiings do get done Sevice quality 3. (1 really bad ... 5 really good)||Service with a smile? No don’t expect any. Some are shy, some are aloof, some peer at you through round goggles as if you are an intruder. Some just don’t know how ro react to guests. If English speaking be patient and repeat gently. Its alright.||Ok those fellow travellers who are are already there in Pelangi or already booked prepaid, Make full use of your time, enjoy the natural ambience and beauty and friendly people around you. ||I certainly did with my family and friends. Had a good holiday regardless. ||Signing off on Oct 4, 2020.||Next time we go stay next door ya. Costs almost the same. Better ambience, better facility,...
Read moreI booked through WhatsApp. The agent was extremely patient with all the questions I had and was very friendly. We chose them because they recently built a new building. Upon arrival we stayed in B11 with ocean view. The room was big, on the 3rd floor with a balcony. The view is better on this side compared to Laguna resort in my opinion. Overall we highly recommend staying here.
On the first night around 8pm we started to smell sewage. This started when it rained heavily that night. Although it was bothersome it did pass and we didn’t smell it the next day or night. WiFi was a bit spotty at times. It started to drop off during the night and mornings when it was probably heavily used by other guests.
Bed was a bit hard. There is a dehumidifier included in the room and a dry rack which was appreciated. Only shampoo is provided, so no hand soap or body wash. We had hot showers, good water pressure and the toilet flushed well. Air conditioner worked really well too, plus there was a ceiling fan. The food was decent. It had a good amount of variety for each meal and changed daily. Tea, coffee, water and lemonade is included.
Snorkel gear and lifejacket is available to rent. A lifejacket is a must on any snorkel trip. The first snorkel trip we went on, my partner and I had an issue with the mask leaking so we didn’t have a great experience. It was a pity because the first site had a lot of marine life. We couldn’t exchange the mask until we came back to the resort. I wish the boat had some extra masks for situation like this. On the 2nd snorkel trip they took us to Turtle Bay. We saw 3 turtles come up to us. It was a highlight. For the 3rd site there was a lot of coral but very little marine life. Bring your own water as none is provided on the boat.
The first night they had fireworks and a live band but we didn’t attend because we had jet lag. Wish we did though. The music ended around midnight. The 2nd night they had a live band and an amazing fire show. The fire show performers was one of the best I’ve seen. Please remember to tip!
There is also a convenience store close by to buy snacks, ice cream, sunblock, vape and other things at a reasonable price.
All the staffs we’ve encountered at the resort were super friendly and made our stay memorable. They were all amazing. They helped arrange our transfer to Perhentian Island for 120RM per person and we departed at 10:30am. We miss you,...
