Updated Review:
I’m updating this review to share the full scope of what happened during my stay—because if I were a future guest, especially someone traveling for rest or healing, I’d want to know everything.
I arrived at this hotel seeking peace, only to experience an immediate health violation. After reporting a large ant infestation in my bathroom sink, I was told the room would be cleaned and affected items replaced. Instead, while I was out briefly for breakfast, hotel staff heavily sprayed Baygon pesticide in the room without informing me, without cleaning anything afterward, and without ventilating the space.
I returned to find my personal items exposed (including my toiletries and toothbrush near the sink), the air thick with chemicals, and no windows or ventilation opened. I was given no warning that pesticide would be used and no support to safely re-enter the space. I had to leave the room immediately with a headache from the fumes, sit in the hotel lobby for over an hour, and ultimately spend most of the day away from my room because the air remained unsafe. I even paid out of pocket to use the hotel’s sauna and spa to try to detox my system from the exposure.
What made it worse: the bathroom has no ventilation. The only window opens into a concrete wall full of pipes and releases only heat, not airflow. I couldn’t safely use the room’s air conditioning because it recirculated the chemical smell, making it even harder to breathe. I had to wear a KN95 mask inside the room at all times.
Baygon is a pesticide with serious chemical ingredients—dangerous for anyone to inhale for long periods, and especially harmful for someone like me who is immunocompromised and currently managing cancer. I made that clear to staff and still was not treated with adequate care.
Then—after all of that—I woke up the next morning to another ant infestation in the bathroom. This came after being told the issue had been “handled.”
This was not just an inconvenience. It was negligent, unsafe, and dismissive of my health and the basic right to feel safe in a paid accommodation.
To future guests, especially those with health conditions or sensitivities: please be cautious. And to hotel management—do better. I came here to rest. Instead, I was left physically harmed, emotionally drained, and treated as if my needs were an inconvenience.
To note: On my first day and the report of ant infestation Kai at the front desk was kind and did her best to help. She showed sincere empathy when she saw and smelled the room. I appreciate her efforts, especially when management was dismissive-but the overall experience was unacceptable, especially for a hotel marketed as a...
Read moreWe have just arrived back home from a truly wonderful 7 night trip to Malta. We stayed in The Village Boutique and Spa the whole week and loved our time there. The staff were attentive and extremely helpful, providing us with excellent local information in regard to restaurants and places to visit as well as explaining the weekly bus pass and the fantastic benefits it provides. We pre paid for bed and breakfast which also gave us access to the spa. The breakfast selection was excellent and the quality of food and drinks served were very nice. The Spa area is very small but more than acceptable and we loved using the stylish indoor pool. The cleanliness of the room was very good and the cleaners arrived everyday to change towels and clean the room. The hotel is in the heart of Naxxar, a very quiet town during the day but in the evening families are out eating at local restaurants which gives the town a nice feeling and buzz around the place. We purchased a weekly bus pass which is a must if you plan to travel whilst in Malta, this saved us an awful lot of money as we travelled to Valletta, Mosta, Mdina, Golden bay, St Paul’s bay, Sliema and Gozo. As Naxxar is very central all of these places took about 20/30 minutes on a bus to get to, accept Gozo as we had to get an express ferry from Valletta to get there, if you don’t suffer from sea sickness Ramla Bay in Gozo island is a must to visit. |The only 2 reasons I did not give this hotel 5 stars is due to the extremely excessive mosquitos in the pool and outdoor eating areas, hardly the restaurants fault and they offer free bug spray at the bar but unfortunately the mosquitos meant we stayed clear of the outdoor pool and only ate inside at all times which was a real shame. Between me and my partner we were bitten over 20 times in 7 days, 10 of which occurred on day 1 when we visited the pool and ate outdoors in the hotel. Also we had a drink in the bar one evening and had a meal at the hotel restaurant and the price was very expensive compared to all other restaurants we dined at in the country and the quality of food was pretty average. |Overall we had a great time and would recommend the place, but remember bring bug repellent and definitely buy the bus pass if you plan to see a lot of...
Read more3 stars for 3 fantastic staff members - Alan, Safal and Karan.
The hotel itself was decent. Originally the room took awhile to calm down as there’s not an actual AC unit but just from a larger one within the building. We tried to speak to the lady at the desk about this brackets (let’s call her dragons breath for this review or DB for short).
DB was very aggressive when questioned about why the AC wasn’t working and began to speak quickly and change her tone and tell us that Malta is in the red zone and that the AC can only do so much. However, I have resided in hotels in the Arabian peninsula which have had, higher temperatures yet? AC fully functional and adequate to call me after a long and tiresome day.
The pool facilities were good, particularly the indoor pool. It had lights and was warm and was a pleasure to swimming. I really appreciate the complimentary ring for new swimmers. My daughter found it very useful. another guest also donated a stick for beginner swimmers during our day and we got to use it which was really helpful for my wife.
The breakfast was quite basic with a small selection of pastries and a small selection of hot food. while it was filling because I used to have about seven or eight croissants at once I would’ve preferred a larger selection of delicatessen. The hot chocolate machine was beautiful and I believe I drank around 2 to 3 L each day from it. Absolutely exquisite.
Let me get the highlight of the review. Safal was absolutely amazing at all times. He was very knowledgeable whether you asked him about the facilities of the hotel or how much water is in a swimming pool. Karan was very kind and welcoming and supported us throughout the day. Alan was amazing in the mornings when we saw him for breakfast he was kind and told us the best spots in Malto - shout out to Gozo Bozo!
that was a rather plump lady in a black shirt who informed us that we were not allowed to use the water machine after breakfast time however it is a very hot country and water is a basic human right. that our water bottles in the fridge but you only receive one per day per guest so make sure to fill it up.
Overall, this was a decent day however I didn’t really have the ‘wow’ effect of a...
