Worst breakfast we have had in Malta, and we have been here for 5 years and tried alot of restaurants! I hate to rag on smaller establishments but dining at this place really ruined our Saturday morning.
Firstly, food took around an hour to arrive. When I inquired where our food was, she looked at her paper and said it's been 30 mins, not 1 hour. I just read in another review that this is standard subpar behaviour from the staff. How shameful to talk to your customers like that. We have two kids so it was hell trying to entertain them for an hour as they were also starving. They made it seem as if it was so shameful for me to inquire about our food. Shouldn't you be ashamed that it takes you (30?) mins to bring out dishes?
We ordered the java egg and shakshuka and strawberry bowl.
The food was NOT good at all, overpriced and underwhelming taste. I would say they didn't salt anything, and not a saltshaker or waitress in sight to inquire.
java egg : was one big hard piece of bread with a tiny extra small egg on top, covered with rotting avocado. Yes, rotting brown avocado. I flagged down a waitress and whispered to her that the avo is rotting and can she exchange it. She said: oh, it's just a bit over ripe... Haha. How funny. She said she would 'see what she could do', proudly marching back with a nice fresh avocado on a plate claiming it will be 'free of charge'. How very generous of you.
Shakshuka: a bowl of tomato sauce sludge, with half a piece of toast cut into 2. So basically just half a piece of toast. After that toast was eaten dipped with the sludge and 1 extra small egg, we still had a soup sludge left and didn't know what to do with it. Drink it? Eat it with a spoon like soup?
Strawberry bowl: my toddler wanted strawberries, so we ordered this bowl as the waitress said it had strawberries on it. What did it have on top? Well I can tell you it didn't have strawberries!! The bowl was very delicious, but again it's basically a smoothie and fruits so hopefully you can't get that one wrong. But maybe be true to your word, because if the toddler wants strawberries, they must have strawberries.
I mean how many things can you complain about? From the service, to the attitude to the food. It was all too much. Place is not cheap either.
The cappucino and orange juice was good. Thumbs...
Read moreI know this place very well. I love the decoration and the staff has always been nice. I know I have to wait very long (30-40 min in busy hours), but today that was it for me. I arrived 10:30 many tables empty. I wait 10 min or so for the waitress to take my order (as always, no problem). I was waiting for my boyfriend and I know they take time to bring the food, so I order for both right the way and I also order a bowl. I said bring the bowl first (since I will be waiting for my boyfriend to arrive). After 50 minutes sitting there another waitress bring me the bowl which btw is granola and fruits, nothing need to be cooked here. My boyfriend was already there, so I ask the waitress, how long will be the other dishes to come? she answers-“you asked for this as a started?” and I said -“yes, but I thought this will come earlier, I have been waiting for very long. She politely said “let me check”—which is normal ok no problem. Then I realized instead of actually checking if our dishes are coming, she came back and said to me-you order your dishes only 15 minutes ago, that’s is not very long for us. I show her my phone screen I sent my boyfriend with the menu at 10:30, and I said- I have been waiting here 50 minutes. She look at me and replay-you said you order long time ago and it was only 15 minutes ago- Ok I should have called the manager instead of keep arguing with her, I thought about it after. I don’t mind wait one hour for the delicious food, but I can not be called out for wanted to doble check if my order has been forgotten (it had happened as well), or knowing how long more is going to take. Anyway since I sit there and I got my Java eggs was one hour and 15 min, which it would have been ok if only the waitress answered what she was asked. I am not coming back, it used to be my favorite...
Read moreWhat a let down 😩 This wasn’t my first time here at Java, infact I remember it being very good and that’s why i decided to come here on my birthday for brunch!
Pity that like many other places in Malta this once great brunch place went down the drain - only focusing on making money and not on good quality food 💔😢
The food took a really long time to arrive, i ordered the Breakfast Bagel (which i had had before) ; it was practically flavourless, the bacon had barely any smokey taste, there was no salt in the egg etc… my boyfriend ordered the nutty noodles with chicken which arrived in a plate so small he couldnt even mix the chicken that was laid on top into the rest of the noodles without dropping everything off the plate! The flavour was okay.
We ordered x2 orange juices which didnt taste like orange at all and were very watery, we asked politely for them to be changed and said if they were going to be the same we would rather have water. The nice waitress brought us two fresh ones but unfortunately they were exactly the same!!
Such a shame for once one of the best brunch places in Malta 😩 I hope the owner will make note of this and focus on giving the customer great food and a great experience rather than just making money like most other places in...
