The hotel's website is not working when trying to submit a review of our stay so thought I'd leave it here...
First, it's an amazing and gorgeous facility, excellent location, beach and restaurant. Our stay would have been perfect other than the following few issues...
Our water stopped working in our room for a little bit. I was mid shower and still full of soap. After a few minutes we called the front desk and they said they were looking into it. I eventually went down to the front desk naked, wrapped in a towel and still with soap on my body to further inquire and possibly use another shower to rinse off at least. The front desk lady did not apologize nor seemeed too concerned. Just told me that the water was working now. We never got a call back to our room informing us that the water was now working. The timing was bad but we thought there would've at least been an apology. We are paying a lot for the room and service and we feel we should've been given perhaps a discount on that night or even one free night since working water is mandatory. Or maybe like a free meal or coupon to use at the restaurant. Something that showed that we are valued would have made the situation better.
Another issue we had was with a server named Eduardo at the beach restaurant/bar near the pool. We ordered a non alcoholic drink which Eduardo told us was 60 pesos. He told us the price in both English and Spanish. Then he gave us the wrong change. When we went to inquire, he said the drink was 130 pesos. We went back to the bar and talked with other staff about it and eventually they sort of corrected the mistake. In the end, we were charged 80 pesos. This made us feel like we were being taken advantage of and did not feel like we trusted staff.
The only other problem was on our last day, in the morning I wanted to weigh my suitcase for the airport. I brought my suitcase all the way down to the lobby, only to realize that I needed to pay change to use the scale. Since it was our last day, we didn't have pesos anymore so I wasted my energy and had to haul my suitcase all the way back up to my room for nothing. (We were still packing both suitcases in the room to try and even the weight) I feel the scale should be free to use for all guests. It felt cheap that we had to pay, but moreso, not many guests will carry pesos upon checkout since they will be going back to their own country's currency. This wasn't a huge deal breaker, but after a week of constant tipping for every little thing and having a small fee for literally anything, this was just kinda the nail in the coffin.
Those things aside, the hotel and our stay was amazing. Such a lovely place and location and friendly staff overall. I would rate it 3/5 or 7.5/10 only because of those 3 problems. It would have been perfect otherwise. I do recommend this place. Location is key and it...
Read moreThe main reason I'm giving this a hotel a 3 star instead of a 5 star rating is because they did not disclose their policy for paying with an American Express card until we checked in. I made our reservation on the hotel's website and used my Amex to guarantee our reservation. The rate was in USD. When we checked in, I was told that if we paid with Amex, it would be charged in MXN, which wouldn't have been a problem, except that the hotel used their own conversion rate from USD to MXN and I ended up being charged $40 USD more than I had reserved the room for. I complained, but the front desk would not budge. This needs to be disclosed when you make the reservation. The gorgeous beach is the main reason to stay at this hotel. The water is clear and the bottom is sandy. You do not need water shoes. The only drawback is that when facing the water, the sun sets a little behind you, and to your left. If it's windy, it can get chilly on the beach close to sunset, but there are plenty of chairs at the pool that will still be in the sun. The pool chairs are a bit uncomfortable however. Also, do NOT feed the birds while you're on the beach. If you do, they will swarm you. We stayed in a one bedroom suite with a kitchen because we don't like going out for dinner after a full day on the beach. Because I hadn't seen it in other reviews, I took pictures of all the kitchen equipment. If you plan to cook, know that the room doesn't have salt & pepper, oven mits, or paper towels. You will need to buy your own bottled water. The hotel gives you 2 bottles to use to brush your teeth. The Super Chendraui grocery store is a 10 minute walk from the hotel. Prices are reasonable. Bring your own bags though. Do not talk to the people who try to sell you tours as you enter the store from the escalator. (You will be harassed by sales people all over Cancun, btw. It seems as though everyone is getting kickbacks for one thing or another, so some are really aggressive.) We were hoping that this resort would be quiet and tranquil, but you frequently hear dance music from a club (?) down the beach and there is also noise from jet skis. My only other criticism is that in the rooms, there aren't any electrical outlets by the bed. We ordered room service on our first night and the food was just ok. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't memorable either. The staff is good. They are attentive without being obnoxious. Housekeeping was very good (remember to tip these hardworking people). The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. There is a gift shop onsite. Finally, do not use "Cancun Travel Experiences" (not affiliated with the hotel). They canceled our departure transfer at the last minute, after they had already confirmed it. I suspect it was because I used a discount code when I made the...
Read moreWe loved it here. This is a smaller resort and we liked that. Everything was close. We upgraded to a beach view unit and we were happy we did. The pool is steps from the rooms. The beach is right there. The restaurant bar on the beach is great. It has all you need. I wouldn't choose the all inclusive because you are so close to restaurants and shops etc. Just 10 pesos to catch the bus to town (about 60 cents). Shopping, Restaurants, Bars etc are all 5 to 10 minute bus rides away. The beach was fantastic! We walked the beach past a lot of other hotels and we concluded that our beach was the best and it is true. The rooms were not extravagant and looked somewhat dated BUT who cares. They were clean. The bed was very comfortable. We spent a lot of time on the deck looking out to the Beach, listening to the waves. They had all we needed. The Wifi is excellent. I brought my apple tv box and we watch Netflix on wifi at night and it was great. This was a very relaxing resort. If you want a party resort, go somewhere else. If you want extravagance and luxury. Large and obnoxious. People blowing whistles and playing music loudly. Then this is not the place for you. This is a great place for a large group or large family as the villas work great for that. We bought about $50 in groceries and had beer and drinks in the fridge, bread for toast. Made our own coffee in the morning and some snacks etc. Never bought breakfast. Made some lunches a couple of times. The little hotel store was totally reasonable. We bought some sugar and a large gallon jug of water for the equivalent of $3. The meals were very reasonable. A nice lunch was around $25....nice dinner with drinks was around $50. Totally reasonable and the food was very good. We would totally come back here again. We enjoyed Cancun and the variety that we could enjoy. Normally we do the all inclusive but we are not big drinkers or eaters so this made a lot more sense to us and we had an adventure every day.....or not. La Isla Majeures was a lot of fun by the way. That launches about 3 minutes down the...
