Our family just returned from a 7 day holiday stay at Holiday Inn Express in Cabo San Lucas. Our positive experience began before we left for our holiday with a phone call to the hotel confirming two beds for our rewards room as our teenage son was accompanying us. Questions regarding transportation via bus to the hotel from the airport were also answered politely.(Purple and yellow bus at Terminal 1) Upon arrival we were given a room on the second floor with a lovely sea view. After the first night we requested a room on the other side of the hotel as it seemed that our room was above a fitness center and we were a bit disturbed by a an early morning bumping noise (likely from a weight machine). We were accommodated by a move to another sea view room on the first floor. The beds were extremely comfortable and the rooms were immaculate with a large tiled shower. We would have made good use of a small refrigerator but the hotel did not have any, Each morning we had a great selection of fruit, eggs, yoghurt, muffins, juice, cereal, breads and pastries and some Mexican breakfast choices. The bacon was the best I have every had!!! The hotel is located directly across the street from Costco which is very convenient (and priced about the same as in Canada). In the same building complex there is an excellent coffee ship with wi fi, a bank, a convenience store and a video rental store. The bus stop going toward San Jose is directly in front of the hotel and the bus stop going into town is across a busy 4 lane highway. You can get across but must be very careful. The buses into town cost about 80 cents Canadian (10 pesos) and they run by every few minutes. Choose the yellow and purple buses for the most comfort although the white buses are okay. (just tell the driver where you want to go). The outdoor pool on the second floor provides comfortable padded lounges chairs and an excellent view of the Sea of Cortez. The New Years Eve fireworks were easily seen from our hotel room window or the swimming pool deck. There is no direct access to the beach from the hotel and you need to access it through a nearby resort or from the downtown area. There is an excellent taco restaurant about a block away...
Read moreThis Holiday Inn is spotlessly clean with super friendly staff, super comfy beds and linens, a nice well kept small pool area and is in a pretty great location just outside of the high prices in town. Uber is reasonable both directions from and to the airport and very affordable into downtown Cabo. The Collectivo and bus are also right outside the door basically and even cheaper but takes longer of course. The small price difference made Uber our choice after the first collectivo ride. Quick and cheap. If you are even just a little bit fit and brave enough to walk across the highway which looks scarier than it is there is Costco which we didn’t go to and a beautiful Soriana store with anything and everything you may want or need. There is a fantastic bistro, an open air Mexican restaurant, an OXOX and a pharmacy right in the strip mall type area along with the hotel. It seems like an odd place for a hotel but it really isn’t once you get your bearings. They offer a lovey abundant free breakfast with a couple of rotating fresh cooked hot options and all the standards like fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereal and bread items. The friendly breakfast staff keeps everything well stocked and very clean. We were very happy with our stay here and would highly recommend if you go knowing in advance there is no beach access anywhere near the hotel and the Cabo beaches are a $5.00 Uber ride away. I think Chileno Bay was under $10 if I remember right. And in our opinion the only thing this hotel is missing is balcony rooms but again it’s ok if you know in advance. Rooms and the pool area have nice wide open views of the famous arch without the hundreds of dollars price tag some hotels charge to be able to see it. This hotel is a great bang for your buck if you are a budget traveler who knows what that really means and if you are willing be a bit adventurous rather...
Read moreThis was our 5th year in a row of visiting the Holiday Inn Resort in SJD for our anniversary and we are never disappointed. Even with the major damages they received from last years hurricane the place was back in good shape with some improved areas as well. The main restaurant was remodeled and much improved and the food choices were much better than some of the reviews mention so unless your looking for 5 star gourmet you should be completely satisfied with the selections and quality. Very happy they added Dos XX and Indio to the lineup to expand the Tecate only selection. The rooms and other interior areas are somewhat outdated but the outdoor areas are well maintained and quite beautiful. The exercise room could use a little improvement but we took a daily long walk for our cardio work and to help burn off the eat and drinks and make room for more. The Estuary trail was really damaged but you can still walk thru and see the birds and turtles. We always enjoy meeting the other guest and share in many great stories and conversations at the pool bars, etc...but the best thing about the resort are the people that work there. To many names to mention but we always received excellent treatment from all. When you can eat and drink almost 24/7 it takes a lot for the staff to provide great service to everyone, but they always do graciously. Let me suggest that if you want to be well taken care of then pass out a few pesos to anyone who serves you. I see people who do not tip and they are still treated nicely but I tip generously and it is much appreciated and acknowledged. We will be back again next year and so on...THANK...
