A tropical storm flooded Holbox the week prior to our arrival. When we got off the ferry, 85% of the streets were still flooded— especially in the part of town where the hotel is located. I had to hire a high-clearance vehicle to bring my wife, our two young kids, and me to the hotel. Flood waters still surround at least three sides of the property (we can't see/access the fourth). We have stayed two nights, but conditions at the hotel are miserable. We cannot walk with our kids to a grocery store or to restaurants. The muddy water has now been standing in the streets at depths of one to two feet for over one week, and temperatures are in the upper 80s F / low 30s C, so the mosquitos in the courtyard and pool area are horrendous. We asked the owner to let us out of the last four days of our reservation to try to find a safer and more enjoyable place. She refused, stating the tropical storm was not a hurricane, and that the reservation is non-refundable. We are the only guests in the entire hotel. I believe the owner had an obligation to let us know the condition of her property and the surroundings prior to our arrival— not for our comfort, but for our safety! She trapped us here, and after refusing our request, she knows full well that poor reviews from us (in English and Spanish) will follow. She told me, "Go ahead!", so here you have it: Stay away, not only during the rainy season, but in any season. In addition to our primary concern, the Wi-Fi signal is weak, the toilets don't flush well, and the electricity went out for a period of time yesterday. The hotel is in a residential area, not a business district. The lot across the street from the hotel entrance is vacant, and it appears as if it is where the neighbors on this street dump and burn their trash. My wife is Mexican. We are a bilingual family. We are "go with the flow" travelers. This is a safety issue— it's entrapment by a stubborn owner who doesn't care about our wellbeing, and you should not make the same mistake we did. She'll get our money, but I hope you will spend your...
Read moreAs it’s a little further away from the action, this hotel was nice and quiet and had everything we needed. It’s only a short walk to the nearest places to eat and the whole area was fine for walking around during the day or at night. It was good to have a fridge in the room, and a kitchen area, including purified water machine for us to use and refill our bottles from. The pool was nice too. The only slight let down was the shower which wasn’t very powerful! Room 7 had a noisey fan/machine going on at night which took some getting used to, but it didn’t go on all night and we slept well in the huge...
