Erhu house has alot of potential but falls short in many ways. Our stay began with the room my partner and I booked online being occupied so we were offered another room with the promise we would change once the other person vacated. This very small room has a "levitating bed" fixed to the ceiling that is nearly impossible to climb into without hitting the walls. Any movement at all while in it gets the same result. The mattress is split into two not quite down the middle which creates a gap that you fall into during the night. One pillow was rock hard and the other was a hastily stuffed pillowcase. We were told every day for four days straight that we would be moving into the room we'd booked, making us feel in a constant state of limbo and unable to properly settle and relax. The last day that they told us, they said they just had to make the bed and we could move in. When we asked a few hours later if it was ready we were informed they booked someone new into it instead. During our time there was late night construction (drills hammering etc) one night and very loud parties every other night. One of these nights there were children yelling and playing (at the adults only, clothing optional hostel) and a child came into our room at 2am. The rooftop pool was not in use and had plants in it instead. Only one shower was in use and the door handle was broken so it couldn't be locked. The only redeeming feature of this stay was how warm and friendly the workers were. Unfortunately that wasn't enough and we had to leave two days earlier than we'd booked...
Read moreSo bad I left without staying and am asking hostel world to refund me and let me review it. First, they left me outside ringing the doorbell for 20 minutes. I called twice, and two people who sounded like they were partying and mostly talked to each other answered. They kept saying something about sending their friend Israel. Well, Israel finally arrived and seemed high or something. He tried to grab my small bag without permission, acting apologetic, and his excuse was that they told him a french girl was coming and I'm not french, and she was already upstairs. He takes me to the room and takes a picture of my passport, but doesn't have me pay (which, actually was good since I could leave when I realized there's no way I would stay there). I went to go to bed, and the bed had black mold spots on the sheets and pillow (both sides). Also, no sheet or blanket. There was a poor, lonely bird in the kitchen tweeting. The incompetent staff member Israel was upstairs blaring loud music at like 9:30 P.M. the whole thing was disgusting and felt unsafe, so I went to leave and realized Israel even left the front door open! Wow!
Then, even more ridiculously, I finally get a WhatsApp message welcoming me and giving me the door code an hour later (10:30 P.M.), after I've checked into another hostel. Unbelievable. Don't book. These people have a perfectly nice property they've destroyed with terrible service. I felt bad for the one guest who seemed to be there, and almost felt like warning her...
Read moreAs soon as we arrived which was about 9pm after a long bus ride, it was said our room wasn’t ready and it wouldn't be ready until 11pm and we had an 8am flight the next morning so need to sleep. They then found us a room.
The the room itself was gross and had mould everywhere and then it rained and the water came into our room from the ceiling and door and our belongings got soaking wet and all my books and papers got ruined.
There was also a large group partying really loud ant the hostel and shouting until 4am so we couldn’t sleep.
I would really like a refund for this stay.
We have tried several times to contact the hostel to get a refund but they haven't replied. At least US$50 worth of books got ruined and then I had to pay to get other stuff reprinted because it got soaking wet inside Erhu House's rooms.
Have contacted Hostel World who said they can't...
