I stayed here as a couple with a dog for two night a few weeks ago because our dog needed to see a specialist. We chose the Westin as it was close to our appointment and also pet friendly. ||Room|We booked a junior suite with breakfast included as the difference in price didn't seem too bad. I was very impressed with the room- it was huge, and I must have missed it when booking (I booked directly on the website), but there are actually 1.5 bathrooms- there is an extra toilet in the living room area. This was very handy. The living space was quite large- our dog loved running around- and the bedroom was also very spacious. The bed was also super comfortable, and the main bathroom was huge. The shower pressure was great and I loved having the double sinks. I also liked the cupboard space in the bedroom- I don't usually use cupboards when staying in a hotel, but I liked the shelves in the closet for placing my handbags.|We also got a really delicious chocolate cookie on arrival which I wasn't expecting, so that was a nice touch.|I did find the room to be a bit dark, even with the blinds open, but that could be due to the direction we were facing. It was also quite dark at night, even with all the lights on, but that seems to be standard in hotel rooms. |One thing I didn't like was the AC- it's set to auto and I don't think you can turn it off? So it constantly turns on/off to regulate itself, but it was really annoying and constantly woke us up all night when the room got too hot. |Also, on the first day, the TV in the living room didn't work properly- I wasn't able to connect to Netflix or watch regular channels. However, I wouldn't "ding" the hotel for this as I didn't say anything, and Netflix worked the next day. ||Pets|The Westin states that it's pet friendly, but I don't remember the weight limit/number of pet limit off the top of my head. We travelled with our dog (5kg chihuahua). Before making the booking, I called up to see if there were any restrictions on the kind of room I was allowed to book, and was told there weren't any, so I booked the junior suite (online). While booking directly on the website, there is a box you can tick to say you're bringing a pet. The girl on the phone told me to call up a couple days before arrival to confirm I was bringing a dog so they could get the room ready- I did this, but on arrival, they still needed to send the bed and bowls up to the room. (But this was done super quickly so it was no big deal. I was a little disappointed that we didn't get the teepee that's shown on the website though lol)|There is a pet fee- I think it was around US $35/day which I think is pretty reasonable. The hotel also provides a bed (it's a big comfy pillow- my dog LOVED it), bowls (along with a mat to keep them in place/ collect spills), poop bags (in a holder), and a packet of pet food (we didn't use this). With the exception of the food, everything else had the Westin name on it which I thought was cute- and shows that the hotel chain in general is very welcoming to pets. There are even room service options for dogs on the menu!||Breakfast|I prepaid for the buffet breakfast as I believe it was a bit cheaper this way. I was really impressed with the spread. There's an egg station- and that even has an egg-white option if you want- where you can get omelettes (there are ingredients there that you can add to it) as well as other things. I'm someone who eats a lot of protein, and apart from the egg station, there were plenty of other options. There were even pre-made egg-white omelettes with spinach and cheese. No matter what your tastes are, I think you'd find something to eat at this buffet. Both of us enjoyed it, and I feel we got our moneys worth, especially with all the protein.||Gym|We used the gym everyday while we were there as we didn't want to leave our dog in the room too long. It's a basic gym- there are dumbbells (up to 50lbs I believe), some kettlebells, medicine balls, a few machines (including a cable machine with plenty of attachments and a lat pulldown), and cardio equipment. There's no smith machine or anything with a barbell, but apart from that, it's a decently equipped gym for a hotel. ||Location|The hotel is right across from the expo centre, so it's the perfect location if that's where you're going. Otherwise, the location isn't that great. I wouldn't say it's walkable to a lot- we chose to eat in the hotel as it was more convenient. There's a small mall a short (10 minute) walk away which has a pharmacy and a couple other things, but it's not an area full of restaurants/cafes etc. In saying that, we chose the hotel because it's close to where we had to go, so the location wasn't a problem.||Staff|Everyone we spoke to was very friendly and helpful! I'm a member of the Bonvoy program, and it was super convenient being able to text the front desk through the app to order things like more coffee pods. Everything we asked for (mostly water and coffee) came super quickly. ||Overall|We had a really pleasant stay here and enjoyed it a lot. The room was great overall, and I'd definitely recommend the hotel to anyone travelling with pets! Breakfast was also a highlight. I would definitely stay here again if we had an...
Read moreI stayed for 5 nights using my points in May. When I arrived, I didn't see any bellhops, so I directly entered the lobby. The lobby is quite spacious and I friendly agent greeted me. I gave my reservation details and was immediately upgraded to a premium view at the 18th floor.
The room was pretty nice and spacious, with gorgeous views of the city and mountains. The windows were floor to ceiling, but it was very difficult to open the curtains. Thankfully, the engineering team came and applied wd-40 to fix it a bit. The bed was pretty comfortable with plenty of plush pillows, but I did notice some stains and cuts from the sheets. The TV was large and had ample amount of channels. There was a mini bar, but I didn't use it. Instead, I used the complimentary safe in the room.
The bathroom was clean, but water pressure from the sink was light. The shower was rain water and it was nice. The white tea bath products smelled nice, but could have been a bit stronger. Ample towels were provided, as well as travel sized soap and lotion.
The lobby was spacious and had a bar. Drinks were hotel expensive, but good quality. I did enjoy their poke bowl at a reasonable price in their sushi restaurant. I also enjoyed their sandwich in the Starbucks inside. The restaurant upstairs had delicious breakfast buffet with various hot and cold options. It was pretty expensive for 20+ dollars, but it was free for Platinum and higher members using that option. I did also enjoy the free 1.5 hour vodka experience they had over there. There was sadly no pool to enjoy, but the exercise room had ample equipment.
The service was good, but short of four diamond quality. For a four diamond hotel, it should have bellhops, valets, and concierge. Even though they are provided when requested, it should be proactive service than reactive. Staff are friendly and helpful though, but they may want to do more research though as different information were provided from various staff (like the location of the vodka event). I will give credit to Mariela for her great and helpful service at the restaurant.
Even with some of the flaws, and the lack of proactive service, I still found Westin to be a nice upper midscale 3 diamond quality hotel. The service is still friendly, the lobby is inviting, and the rooms were comfortable with great views. I also enjoyed the food at the restaurant. I would visit again if the points are right, and especially when bellhops and concierge services are provided for this AAA rated 4...
