This is not a hotel. This is more like a motel. It is very conveniently located close to the downtown area, but it also sits at the edge of a very bad neighborhood. At night it becomes a red light district (prostitutes everywhere) and quickly after 8PM it becomes dangerous to be out due to the high number of aggressive drunkards and homeless. I was approached and chased on multiple occasions (4) by either group. There is also a large amount of liter and trash everywhere. The hotel itself is very clean, but the rooms are drafty and the bathrooms give off a continuous sewage smell. I came with friends and two complained that the lights in their rooms didn’t turn on, their TV’s were also inoperative. The general staff is friendly and efficient, but complaints fell on deaf ears at the front desk who seemed unapologetic, unsympathetic and exasperated at having to deal with foreigners even though three of us spoke perfect Spanish. The beds are clean, but the matressses stiff and uncomfortable. At night the street outside the hotel is noisy which makes it hard to sleep and in the morning it seems to be a meeting point for an ambulance corp, filling the streets with truck noises, shouts and general din from as early as 7 AM. The complimentary WiFi is slow and seldom worked and the offered cable (for the TVs that worked) was all of ten channels. Overall I enjoyed very little about this place. The hotel did provide bottled water every day, but returning here every night after exploring the city filled me with trepidation. This place caters more towards the local populace and the sorrounding consumers of the red light district than to tourist, foreigners or travelers. I would absolutely NOT recommend it for families. If you’re planning to vacation in Mexico City, spend the extra money and stay some place else. It will...
Read moreI stayed at Hotel Mina for a week and found it adequate. The weather was cool enough not to require AC and the fan worked well. The room was big. However, the shower shared the same floor as the toilet and could not drain, leaving a pool of water around the toilet. If you shower in the mornings be prepared for wet floors in the bathroom. In rebuttal, the hotel would happily mop up the floor and perhaps not all bathrooms have that drainage issue. The internet signal was weak. I was able to walk to Zócalo in 20 minutes, the subway is nearby, and I visited all surrounding museums with ease. I felt safe in the surrounding area. There are prostitutes that work at neighboring hotels and the hotel has adult channels. If your traveling with your family, you have to consider this atmosphere. What people do with their bodies is their own business. If you plan to visit Freda Kahlo’s museum, buy your ticket days in advance or else wait 2-3 hours to enter. The neighboring hotel has breakfast buffet for a good price. For the price, I would...
Read moreI don't understand how the internet travel companies can book travellers here without mentioning the most prominent feature of this hotel: that it is right in the middle of the Red Light District, and you will have to contend with prostitutes, pimps, and their clients all day long. The hotel is used by the prostitutes for their trade. The tv channels are full of porn. If you are fine with this, then the rooms are fairly spacious (but old) for the price. However, the other big issue with the place is that rooms on the top floor have a loud, unpleasant buzzing (mechanical, possibly from a generator on the roof) that shakes the walls and never stops, even at night. I was booked and pre-paid for a full week and had to call the booking company to demand a change of rooms after the first night.||||What is the area around this hotel known for:...
