I did not end up going to this hotel, so I can't comment on the hotel itself. For various reasons I had to cancel my reservation. However, I did interact with the front desk via email and they were prompt and helpful.||I do want to make people aware of a potential billing issue. If you book your room through Marriott you will be quoted a total amount including taxes in USD. However, the hotel will charge you in Pesos using what the hotel believes to be the market USD/Peso exchange rate. The hotel uses PayPal to process the payment 7 days in advance of arrival. PayPal gives you two options: (1) PP will do the exchange and also charge a 4% fee, or (2) your CC company will do the exchange. ALWAYS use your CC bank to do the exchange. Unfortunately the exchange rate the hotel uses and what your CC will use will probably be different and you will end-up paying more in USD than what was quoted by Marriott (the Marriott reservation does not state that the USD amount is an estimate.) I did push back on this with the hotel and they lowered the Peso amount, but I ended paying about $10 USD more than the Marriott quote. It would have been $100+ if I hadn't pushed back. The hotel should take the exchange rate risk not the guest. They could have PP charge the guest in USD and then remit the Peso equivalent...
Read moreWanted to share my experience with others. First review I have ever made, even though I travel a bunch. I am Platinum for life with Marriott, and booked this reservation 6 months in advance based on reviews/pictures/etc… Two weeks before my trip, I get an email saying they are over booked, and can’t fulfill my reservation. (General sales contact emails me.) They say they can put me in the new hotel across the street that I didn’t pick 6 months ago, which has worse reviews and doesn’t look as nice. The very next day I get an email from front desk asking me to pay for the room. (I assume that’s what triggered the timing of the first email saying they couldn’t help me.) All my questions are basically answered with: “Yea, sorry, same experience across the street.” I canceled and booked last minute at another place, which cost me a bunch more. Worst experience I have ever had with a Marriott property ever. My final email to them was to please give future guests more than 2 weeks notice when they make a mistake. Good luck all, and...
Read moreI am writing this review from our room at Hotel Escondido as we finish up a wonderful stay here. The property is stunning - from the finishes to the planting to all the artisanal details (the sitting room is a perfect place to read and relax!) and the beds are super comfortable. Yes, as some of the reviewers have mentioned there is some noise - but it’s a noisy city everywhere and it’s not so much as to disturb your stay. We stayed in room 10 and it was magical to wake up each morning to a beautiful view of the city in a corner room with huge clean windows and a balcony. But the thing that really made our stay special was the service! Everyone was so kind and welcoming but the standouts were Sabino, who greeted us each day with a smile, and Olin and Alan at the bar / restaurant who gave us such wonderful service when we had dinner there (which was also delicious and one of the best we had during our whole stay, by the way!) We will definitely be back someday and are so sad to leave in...
