I’ve never been so disappointed in a hotel stay. I’ve been to Puerto Escondido 4x. I had much better experiences at other hotels/hostels in La Punta that were 1/5th of this price.
PROS: -beautiful pool area -beautiful terrace to watch the sunset -excellent location -good WiFi in restaurant/ pool area
CONS: -Extra $110 USD per night when we checked in (not outlined on online booking on Hotel website)
-Uncomfortable rooms (cold showers, uncomfortable mattress, low quality linens, no TV, no comforter, no full length mirror, terrible lighting, NO HAIR DRYER)
-LOUD rooms. Walls are concrete, but they are like cubbies. The door to the hallway is one big wooden piece. You hear every person walking the hallway. Neighbor is unlocking the door? It echos and sounds like someone is unlocking YOUR door. Fire alarm went off 7+ times in our 4-night stay.
-Poorly thought out space (outdoor pavers someone will break an ankle on, sewage smell from drains, no good place in rooms to put suitcase but no drawers to put clothes and only 2 hangers, have to go to front desk for pool towel, etc, loungers near plants are covered with red ants that bite, etc)
-TERRIBLE SERVICE. The worst I’ve ever had in 30+ countries I’ve visited. Over 4 days, sitting by the pool, going to the restaurant, drinks on the rooftop - never did anyone stop by the table/chair and ask if we wanted a drink or even gave us a menu. In Pool area you have to stand up and walk into the restaurant where 4+ employees are doing any mundane task apart from actually attending to the guests. After you’ve badgered staff for hours to serve you a few rounds of drinks, they will probably bring you the wrong check several times. On the rooftop, the waitress printed and gave us the wrong check 3x before she got it right. Half of the drinks were so bad we didn’t drink them (still paid for them). Tasted like the soap/chemicals didn’t get rinsed off properly when the glasses were washed. Note - not a language barrier issue. I speak Spanish & my partner’s native language is Spanish.
-spa, sauna, coffee shop, and other amentities were all closed during our stay.
SUMMARY: 2/5 stars because the pool is nice and a lot of the issues are fix-able. Doesn’t seem to be anyone at the hotel who actually cares about the guest experience so I doubt these improvements will happen. Will NEVER stay there again. Complete rip-off. To charge these prices in Puerto, you need to deliver at least an...
Read moreHotel Humano is a beautifully designed space with a warm, minimalist aesthetic. The use of wood tones and soft ambient lighting creates an inviting atmosphere that feels calming and stylish. However, the experience is ultimately underwhelming due to a strong emphasis on form over function.
The design choices, while visually appealing, often lack practicality. The end tables are laughably small and low, making them almost useless. The sink doesn’t fully drain, which is frustrating, and the shower setup is just bizarre. They tried to integrate it into the room, but unless the curtain is fully closed, water splashes everywhere. Worse, there’s no hot water in the shower. Yes, Puerto Escondido is a warm destination, but when you’re paying $250+ per night, the option for a warm shower shouldn’t be too much to ask.
Lighting is another issue. While the low, ambient lighting contributes to a relaxed mood, there’s no functional lighting where you actually need it. Shaving was a challenge since I could barely see one side of my face in the mirror. Storage is also lacking, making it difficult to unpack and settle in properly.
We paid extra for a room with a balcony, expecting it to add to the experience. Instead, there was only one chair, and when you sit, you’re just staring at a brick wall. There’s no real view, making the upgrade feel like a waste.
Service-wise, the staff was fine—polite but not particularly warm or welcoming, which is disappointing at this price point. As for the food, we tried the guacamole at the hotel restaurant and were underwhelmed. It was served with dry, flavorless round corn chips. You’re better off heading across the street to Punta Madre, where the guacamole is far superior.
Overall, Hotel Humano is a place that looks great in photos but doesn’t hold up in practice. If you prioritize aesthetics over comfort and functionality, you might enjoy it. Otherwise, for the price, there are better options in...

Our experience at Hotel Humano was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the stunning architecture and thoughtful design of the hotel—every room is a blend of natural elegance, modernity, and comfort, perfectly integrated with the surrounding landscape and every detail considered.
The quality of the hotel is outstanding in every way. The service was impeccable, with a warm and attentive staff that made us feel welcome and cared. A very special thanks to Patrick and Emmanuel at the front desk, who went above and beyond to ensure our stay was smooth, comfortable, and memorable for me and my family.
The breakfast was another highlight—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Dinner menu was also very attractive although this one we did not try as we also enjoyed of Puerto Escondido area. Rooftop to see the sunset is speechless and probably the coolest rooftop in the whole area.
This was a 5-star stay in a place that feels both exclusive and deeply connected to the beach its surroundings. Hotel Humano is a hidden gem in Puerto Escondido, and we definitely...
