Just got home from 10 nights here in Feb of 2020.||||We had a king suite on the 4th floor in the building furthest from the beach. There are two towers.||||Check in was fast and easy. There are no elevators, so it was nice that a staff member helped us with our bags up to the room.||||Room was excellent. Always kept spotlessly clean, really good air conditioning, ceiling fan, refrigerator, smart TV which could be used for Netflix or YouTube, and really fast internet. Bed was on the firm side but comfortable. There is a digital coded safe in the room and lots of storage for clothes and bags. Balcony was really a good size and had two nice wooden chairs with cushions and an awesome hammock. We enjoyed a wonderful sunset view from our balcony.||||Pool area was nice but there are not a lot of lounger chairs here. (3-4). It wasn't that easy to snag a lounger at the pool, but on the beach it never was a problem. Pool was kept clean, and they had some tables and chairs here as well. It was a great spot to have a coffee in the shade and the young man who normally tended this bar/cafe was super friendly and professional.||||Beach here is not ideal if you aren't a strong swimmer as there is a strong undertow and crashing surf, but it is very beautiful. They had quite a few loungers here, but only 4-5 umbrellas. It would be nice if the hotel invested a bit more here and either added more umbrellas or even better some palapa umbrellas like the beach club further south has. Staff would occasionally come out to the beach to take orders for drinks but it wasn't very predictable whether or not they would appear, and often empties would be left the entire day rather than being picked up every hour or so.||||The rooftop bar, and many of the rooms enjoy the best sunsets the area has to offer. The staff at the rooftop bar were excellent as well, and the prices were very fair. They also played a nice mix of Mexican music, and some great classic rock like Pink Floyd which was a nice change from most other spots. The margaritas here were fantastic.||||Check out was a little less than ideal. Tried phoning the front desk numerous times to see if we could get somebody to come up and help with luggage but nobody answered. Also no itemized bill was printed out for verification when checking out. They did make sure that a taxi was booked and waiting for us at our requested time for our flight home.||||If we come back to visit this area, I would book into this hotel again without hesitation. The staff were super friendly, most spoke English and didn't laugh at our attempts at Spanish too much, and the hotel is very clean and...
Read moreAh… where to begin with Hotel Punta Zicatela.
This place is paradise.
We stayed in several Airbnbs around town, as well as another hotel, and they absolutely did not come close to comparing to Hotel Punta Zicatela.
First — the view. If you’re in an oceanfront room, then the view simply couldn’t be better. Sunset every night as it cascades down the beach. Plenty of birds frolicking in the surrounding trees. And chaise longe seating with drinks service along the beach too. There is also an incredible view on the roof!
Second — the service. Any issues that arose (all minor!) were solved immediately. We stayed here for nearly 3 months (yes, you read that right!) and we were blown away by the incredible management of this hotel. A special shoutout to Angel and Dayma who are doing a truly spectacular job.
Third — the people. As mentioned above, everyone here is simply a delight. We truly appreciated the friendliness and warmth of the whole team.
Fourth — LOCATION! How could it get better?! You’re right in the center of La Punta, and directly on the beach. Amazing coffee, tasty restaurants and cute shops all around. Yes, this means you can sometimes hear the live music from in town at night. But this is usually over by 10 pm — and frankly, it was still the quietest place we stayed during our whole trip. Plus, you can hear the waves at night :)
Fifth — the filtered water jugs are always filled, so you don’t have to worry about buying bottles every day.
Sixth — the cleaning staff is impeccable!
Seventh — the wifi is good enough for most work. It cuts out sometimes, but that is to be expected in La Punta, and is not the hotel’s fault :)
Eighth — you can see WHALES from the balcony… I mean, come on!
I could keep going. But I think you get the point. Hotel Punta Zicatela is the best hotel here. Hands down. And the value for money is incredible. If you’re coming to Puerto Escondido: stay here. You...
Read moreReally enjoyed our stay at hotel Punta Zicatela. The location was absolutely perfect. Near enough to the action of the slightly hippier/more backpack (in a good way!) vibe of the la Punta area vs the busier area further up the beach but far enough away from some of the noisier bars/daytime activity to feel really peaceful. The beach itself is beautiful, incredible sunsets and as said, fairly quiet, especially by the hotel here. We had a couples massage on the beach which the hotel organised for us and was so relaxing and great value (650 MX for over an hour for mine!) ||Loads of lovely places nearby for breakfast, lunches/snacks and drinks.||Amazing service, such kind helpful staff. Beautiful area of beach with comfy loungers and loads available. The hotel was peaceful and quiet (for the most part - a group of young teenagers were doing some very noisy drinking right by the pool one night but I expect this is a one off)||Drinks at the bar were at the more expensive end for the area (no more expensive than my local pub in london) but when you’re having your cocktail brought to you on the beach for sunset - that’s priceless! The two free cocktails on the roof terrace the day we arrived were a nice touch. We had an ocean view room with a terrace and a hammock which was lovely. ||My only slight criticisms would be that the pool isn’t really big enough for proper swimming, just a dip, and the pool area has limited space for relaxing - but the beach is so lovely it didn’t matter to us. Also the bed was a bit hard for my liking but we slept in 4 different beds on our Mexico trip and they were all bad 😂 Finally, we had an ocean view room but had the one on the ground floor closest to the walkway in off the beach to the hotel so it felt a bit exposed at times but a seriously minor point and just luck of the draw on which ocean view room you get. ||Would 100% stay here...
