Our hosts in SMA recommended we come here; they’ve been visiting this resort since its opening later last year. Just aproaching the premises tells you that this is quite another level of luxury for San Miguel de Allende standards, and you begin to question whether your wallet’s going to be happy about this (as far as dining, it really wasn’t too bad, we’d later find). It’s a little intimidating at first if you are already self conscious about how you are perceived in businesses, especially if you come from the United States, where brown people or people with other differences are right to be concerned about whether they are welcomed or not. So, my indigenous-looking face unavoidably puts me in that position but I am normally pleasantly surprised to be treated just fine, —whether that’s because I am next to my white, blue-eyed spouse is another thing. So here we went, two retired Canadians, one young American professional and a Nicaraguan. Angelica and Sergio, the servers who first greeted us, treated us with joy and kindness from the first moment, and were very happy to speak Spanish with me (my Spanish is quite different from theirs) or to switch to English to make the other people in my group more comfrotable. After offering us better seating than we originally went for, Angelica insisted we get a tour of the place, she thought we’d love it and clearly she felt very proud of her workplace. While Angelica stayed with out hosts at the dining space, Sergio took my spouse and I on a tour. My rating of this place is both because it fulfills the luxury that it sells and because of our very pleasant experience with a welcoming staff. Both Sergio and Angelica are examples of the local hospitality of San Miguel de Allende and this hotel will only be as good as the local warmth that their staff bring into their professionalism. As far as hotel, amenities and dining, yes, you have everything you wish right here, from luxury massages by the pool, to a cigar and spirit room, to a Thai restaurant, to state of the art facilities and beautiful terraces. The location is walking distance from all the action but removed just enough to get away from the noise. The food options are all internationally luxury standard and you will be offered equally deliciousness vegetarian options.
