As an American expat, I've been taking classes here for about a month, so i thought it was time to leave a review. I have to say that I am surprised how much I am really enjoying this school! THE SCHOOL AND CLASSES The school itself is fairly small, but that was appealing to me. Lots of personal attention and very laid back. Class sizes are limited to 5 people, which is wonderful. My current class only has three people. The manager/owner, Claudia is super friendly. She greets me by name every morning, which might seem like a minor thing, but to me, it sets the tone for the whole school. The first class was free, and I immediately felt very welcomed by both the teacher and the other students. I will admit that I tried other schools located in the Centro as well, but they were bigger, more formal, and were not nearly as welcoming or laid back. I kind of felt more like a number than a person. Personally, they weren't a good fit for me. THE TEACHERS I have had the same teacher since I first began with the BASIC Spanish level and continued to advance. This has been great for consistency and building relationships. Mariana is an exceptional teacher! I am super impressed with her teaching skills. She is always able to understand and assess how you are performing in the class and subsequently adapts the class to meet the needs of each and every student, even if that means diverging from that day's lesson plan and taking more time to review for added clarity and practice. Even though the classes are only 1 hour each weekday, I feel that we are moving at a really good pace for learning and retention. I think this is perfect for an expat that has moved here or is visiting for a good length of time. I would agree with the other reviewer here in that this school doesn't really seem optimized to be an immersion school with multiple hours of classes a day. If that's what you're looking for, other schools in town would most likely better meet your needs. Personally, I can only absorb so much material at a time, so an hour a day, five days a week is perfect for me. It gives one the chance to enjoy more of the day as well as the town! They really encourage you to practice out in the real world, which in itself an invaluable way to add to the more formal classwork. I highly recommend Liceo...
Read moreWe were only a little satisfied with the school. we also have to say that we had special conditions. if you stay longer in san miguel and take 1 hour every day, the school is definitely good.
We had asked for 4 hours a day and the whole thing didn't suit us. We had 4 separate lessons that didn't build on each other and so we were overwhelmed with information. Unfortunately, we were also told that there are aktivities during the week that you can take part in. Unfortunately, when we arrived this was not the case, we were promised a city tour for one day and on the day it was supposed to take place, it was said that there was none. That was sad for us, because we had asked specifically beforehand. If you want to do a crash course with many hours in a short time, another school...
Read moreI haven't taken a class there since 2019, due to the pandemic. However for maybe the previous 5 years I went there for a few months at a time each year. I really learned a lot and am looking forward to returning. Most of those times Luis was my instructor, although I've had some classes with Miguel and several others. Classes were small and enjoyable. I went 5 days a week for an hour a day and became fairly fluent. The school was a big reason that I kept returning to San Miguel. I'm glad to hear that it has re-opened. Looking forward to seeing my former teachers and also hope that Claudia is still working...
