Just arrived here for 4 nights. Fairly hot day - 20 degrees at 5pm. Perfect weather to take a dip. But am told the swimming pool is not clean and won't open until summer. When is summer then, I ask? July and August. This is North Morocco. There is a lot of warm/hot/very hot weather between now and July. And a lot of frustrated guests, tantalised by the view but not the actual experience of a swimming pool. The staff member seemed to take a degree of amusement in my disappointment, which compounded the let-down and helped prompt this review.
This hotel is quite a distance from the City centre, so booked it on merits of things like the swimming pool. Have just come from a Sercotel hotel in Cordoba, Spain, who managed to have their outdoor pool open.
On top of that, there were no proper towels in my room. Just a floor towel for exiting the shower. That will be remedied, but unfortunately adds to critical view of this hotel. I hope they lose lots of custom because of this review, from people who were going to book because of the pool, until the opening period is extended. I'd say April until October is about right. It makes sense, makes the most of what the hotel has, and would increase both bookings and return visits. I wouldn't come here again unless the pool was open.
I also think opening months of swimming pools should be clearly shown by all hotels and hotel chains (and third party websites), to avoid disappointment and providing what is effectively misleading information if not included.
Update: the towels came after about an hour via another enquiry. No idea how long they would have taken otherwise. They should have been provided immediately, since guests may want a shower on arrival.
I had a late check-out until 15.00, and gave keycard for the extension to be put in it. Went out and came back at 13.30, but the keycard did not work. Had to wait for 15 mins whilst reception dealt with two lengthy processes. One staff member was in training, and clearly they could do with three people on reception at times. Eventually reached front of queue and stood in front of staff member whilst he handled money and envelopes. Had to say, please could you recharge my card, otherwise it may have been another 5 mins - it only took 20 seconds and he was fine with my intervention. I asked him why it hadn’t worked before, and he didn’t have an answer.
The breakfast was varied and delicious, and as per much of Tangier, nicely priced by Western European standards - about 7.50€.
They have a metal detector or something similar in the entrance which everyone has to go through to the enter the hotel. It was set off most times that I came in and out the building. I question the point of it, since the alarm was clearly not an issue for the staff members.
I stayed here as a safe entry point to my first time in Morocco, and because of the pool. Have now moved to an apartment which is much nicer, closer to action of the centre and extremely spacious (two bedrooms, balcony, big living room, washing machine, kitchen) for similar price. However, their swimming pool is closed until 1st May, but at least they open it for nearly 8 months, rather than the Ibis’ desultory 2.
Finally, the location is not great, unless you want somewhere nearish the train station. I spent a fair bit on taxis and a motorbike ride. Seatbelts often don’t work and some play with fares with tourists. So staying closer to historical centre will save both time, hassle and money, and might be safer in light of lower...

I made a reservation back in February for August 1 for a family of four, requesting their Family Rate deal (first room regular price, 2nd room 50% off). Since I received two confirmation emails, each with one room for two adults, I sent an email to the hotel requesting clarification and confirmation about the family rate. Didn’t receive an answer, so got ALL-Accor customer service involved. That got a reply from the hotel that the reservation was for two rooms for two adults & two children and that I’d get another email confirming the family rate. Never received the promised follow-up email. Tried to call a number of times at different times of the day, but nobody ever picks up the phone. For the last week before our stay we tried several calls each day, but still never were able to speak to anyone. When we arrived at the reception we were told the requested adjoining rooms weren’t available. After talking to the manager we were told that they had adjoining rooms, but they’d need to be cleaned, which would mean a wait. We agreed to that. When doing the check-in, the rate was quoted as 100% for both rooms. I showed the receptionist the offer on their web site, as well as the email promising the family rate, but even the manager declined, saying that what’s on the reservation gets charged and that the hotel is not responsible for such offers or the price that gets set on a reservation, pointing to the web department and customer service. Needless to say, we found other accommodations, so I can’t comment on the rooms and any other services. The only other thing I can say is that it’s a good location, near the train station. Unfortunately there is currently construction on a neighboring building and there is heavy traffic and it’s a bit difficult to park. There certainly are many other hotels, both in the same price class as well as higher & lower that actually provide courteous service.
Again- if you don’t mind having any communication attempts going to a black hole, this hotel might give you...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and had a awful experience. The first day we arrived we were releaved how close it was to the train station and enjoyed our walk. As soon as we got to the front desk to check-in the gentlemen that was helping us was in training and very kind but the lady training him was rude and not welcoming. They gave us a smoking room when we requested a non-smoking room as we do not smoke. We also had 2 twin beds when we requested a Queen. The room was disgusting and very dated. Barely room for 2 people and their luggage, no safe, no iron or ironing board. The bathroom had ants all over the floor. We decided to head to the pool and the pool boy took over 20 mins to get towels and was flirting with a girl the entire time versus paying attention and actually doing his job.
We got ready to leave our hotel to go for dinner and realized our door lock was broken, when we complained earlier about the cigarette smell they told us they could not give us a new room until the next morning. When we told them the lock does not work on the door and that we are not comfortable leaving knowing anyone can just go in our room they refused to offer any solution and told us to wait 30 mins for a technician to fix it so we did but the situation was poorly handles. The 2nd we were shifted to new room and that day we had a excursion booked and our driver was scheduled to pick us up at 9:20 am from the hotel. When we got down to eat a quick breakfast they asked for our room number which was a first and told us we did not have breakfast included in our booking when we did. The front desk refused to open our booking on her computer and denied us free breakfast unless we paid. We were short on time therefore we paid $14 CAD for us to eat. I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone, its an absolute dump and the staff are not professional, or kind...
