Extremely Disappointing Stay – Not What You Expect from a Hilton
We had a terrible experience at Hilton Garden Inn Tangier and would not recommend it to anyone expecting even basic Hilton standards.
We booked through Booking.com and specifically selected a reservation for three people, which increased the price. Yet, at check-in, we were told the booking was only for two people and had to pay an additional ~$100 for a third person — even though we had already paid more upfront for a party of three. Frustrating and dishonest.
Then we got to the room… only to find one king-size bed. Apparently, the staff thought it was normal for three people — including our almost 18-year-old daughter — to sleep together in one bed. We tried calling the front desk, but the room phone didn’t work. My husband had to go down in person and explain that this was unacceptable. The original booking was for a family room, but the room we got was small and clearly not what we paid for. After several reminders, they finally brought in a small cot. Next we learned that we were placed on the smoking floor. The smell of cigarettes was horrible. No one asked us if we mind or not to be in such a room.
As if that wasn’t enough, the AC in the room didn’t function properly. It would randomly turn off and during the night, and we woke up in the morning sweating in a hot room. Definitely not what you expect after paying this much for a room at a Hilton.
Breakfast looked impressive at first glance, but almost everything that should have been hot was cold — eggs, sausages, potatoes, pancakes, waffles. And the cold items, like yogurt, were warm, as if they had been sitting out for hours.
We also brought laundry to the self-service laundry room, only to find a sign taped to the door saying “Out of order.” No advance notice, no help offered. When I asked a staff member when they expected it to be fixed she was clueless and said „maybe tomorrow”.
To top it all off, the front desk staff was cold, unhelpful, and generally unfriendly. There was no hospitality, no sense of accountability, and certainly no Hilton-level service.
As a long-time Hilton Honors member who stays at Hilton properties around the world, I can honestly say this was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with the brand. Hilton should seriously reevaluate this property.

Read moreI will begin with the pros :
Very comfortable bed, spacious room, excellent location (next to the main mall, and a few minutes walking distance to the beach). Excellent cleaning service, the cleaning lady was very nice and welcoming. We asked her for 2 extra bottles of water on the first and second day, she started giving us 2 extra ones almost every day without us seeing her or asking. Very good service - the rooms were always cleaned with no issues. The staff decorated the room with flowers for our honeymoon which was very lovely. Upon arriving, however, we were meant to be put in a sea-view room but were put in a city-view - but the staff quickly moved us to a sea-view by the next day. This was not that big of an issue.
Cons:
The main issue I had is that me and my wife were constantly bothered 3 days in a row when we came back into the hotel from going out, we kept being stopped by the front staff and asked what room we were in and I felt that the staff thought I was bringing in a girl from outside - this bothered me a lot. By the third day, I did get upset and asked the staff if they were going to be asking me every single day - I did not like this. I do not want to be checked every time I go in and out of the hotel, this is not proper and very annoying - nowhere do they do this. I felt the staff realized I was frustrated by my tone and they did not bother us again so that was good.
The wifi wasn't the greatest and went off every time I put my phone down I had to sign back in, but in the last few days (we were there for 8 nights) it became stable and I did not need to log in back into it.
Still - it is a very good hotel, I would have rated it a 5 had they not kept bothering us about coming back into the hotel - she is my wife, both of our names are on the booking - it really really bothered me a lot. But I will not give 1 or 2 stars because of this mishap - I do still recommend this hotel because it is a good hotel, it was clean and comfortable with an excellent location - what more could...
Read moreA nice clean comfortable Hilton branded hotel in the heart on Tangiers. It’s location is very convenient as the new high speed train (TGV) Station has just opened (Nov’18) and it’s a short walk of about 5 to 8 minutes from the hotel. So you can now get the bullet train from Tangiers to Casablanca and be there in around 2 hours which is half the old 4 hours commute time by car. It will be good for business travelers who fly in to Casablanca but who need to also come to Tangiers. You obviously have more connecting flight choices out of Casablanca than you do the local Tangiers Airport. Hotel staff friendly, attentive and helpful. But remember where you are and respect the culture. Hotel rooms have ironing board (mine was missing the iron this time) kettle and basic amenities to make coffee or tea. There is a unstocked minibar fridge as well as a lockable safe in each room. There is a shopping mall right next door about a 2 minute walk so you can buy some groceries snacks sodas extra water etc. there to stock the room fridge. There are two complimentary bottles of water on arrival that is not restocked after the first day. Bathroom, shower and toilet clean, tidy and reasonably modern. An ocean view room is worth the extra investment per night if that’s important to you. A very generous serving of foods and choices st breakfast. One of the better ones I have had. A on duty chef will cook you a fresh omelette and you can make fresh waffles too. Good choice of fruits, yogurts, breads, and most importantly, coffee. The hotel is right across from the beach and the new pier that’s been built and there lots of local restaurants close by. There is also a small food court in the shopping mall next door. There money changers next door if you need to convert some currency and ATM’s close by. For fast food junkies and go keep the kids happy, there’s a...
