I'm still here now, and I think a lot of the complaints about this place are unfair. But first I'll start with the things that bother me. I'm still giving it 5 stars because the problems it has I can't 100% blame on the hotel and the good makes up for it.
The toilets' don't really flush. They flush about 20% of the time. I don't know why. I tried everything, holding it down, letting it fill up, etc. They only flush sometimes. I don't know what causes this, I think it's a water pressure issues.
There is no wifi in the rooms, only in the lobby, and it often doesn't work. I will admit, however, that is a Morocco problem, and not totally at the fault of the hotel. (Everywhere experiences wifi issues, maroc telecom cables have been very poor) But I do encourage the hotel to improve their wifi as most guests can become angry about this. (I have a hotspot so that is how I've had internet here)
It can be loud outside sometimes from the street, but that's common in Morocco. Earplugs, easy. Not the hotels fault. You want the manager to go out and scream at random locals? Get real. But it's not even that bad.
Good:
Squeaky clean rooms! Big bathtub in my room, and the water gets just hot enough (not super hot, but enough). Comfy bed. TV with almost no channels, but one American movie channel I watched a couple movies from. Cleaning lady is sweet and polite and helpful. Front desk is also professional and polite, employees are fluent in French, Darija, Arabic, and speak plenty of English just be patient as not all the employees have English fluency, but they work hard to understand. Be patient! This isn't your country.
I am isolating for a few days because people I was close to got COVID. I am fine, no symptoms! I am just isolating for a little while to be safe. They let me take breakfast and dinner to my room. I find the concierge very polite and humble. The lady who runs the restaurant has a professional "no nonsense, get it done" personality. I don't understand the complaints about the food. The breakfast is simple, but plentiful. It's a Moroccan version of a continental breakfast. Cheeses, lunch meat slices, fruit, breads, olives, Moroccan sweets. Yummy coffee and Moroccan tea. I love it. The dinner is equally delicious. Yes, if you're a picky eater do not order the meal plan as you don't get a choice at dinner, but I love surprises and I eat almost anything, so I love my nightly dinner surprise (ALWAYS fresh and tasty!!) they wrap it up nicely and bring it to my room for me. I'm sure if you are a vegetarian or have diet restrictions you could communicate this (the dinner always comes with a big salad, for example)
I'm excited to be leave isolation tomorrow so I can enjoy the beautiful pool with the beautiful view. The bar is simple, I ordered a glass of red and brought it to my room. The wine was...ok. Not the best, but it's Morocco, where drinking is technically frowned upon (unless tourism) so I don't have room to complain. (remember: you're in MOROCCO. Stop comparing a 50-70USD/night 4-star hotel to a 200-700USD a night 4-star hotel in the states or France. Unfair.)
I think people are too picky. Remember where you are and adjust your expectations. Morocco is amazing. I have to move to a cheaper hotel next week as I am here until August studying, and I am nervous to leave because my experience here has been so good.
Thank you for the lovely stay! :) I am looking forward to the rest of...
Read moreThis hotel leaves a lot to be desired for weary travelers. In this day of electronic devices, there are very few outlets to charge things. I found one for my phone and one for my (not in the bathroom) to charge my electric toothbrush. In fact, I didn’t find any outlets to use in the bathroom, which means I can’t use my blow dryer - or flat iron - for that matter, and the hotel dryer is completely inadequate. And there are no soap - hand or body - or shampoo or lotion - no toiletries, in the bathroom.
I also bought a glass of wine at the small bar right outside the restaurant and took it in to the dining room where I had only a quick bite of salad at the dinner buffet. After finishing my salad, I drank my last sip of wine , I walked out of the dining room intending to get a refill of my glass to take up to my room. A server came running out after me, yelling at me, pointing at the glass. I didn’t understand what she meant, but showed her the receipt for the wine I’d purchased. That and the bartender calming her down finally convinced her, but she grabbed the glass from my hand and walked away with it. I didn’t say anything- I thought the bartender would have another wine glass, but he didn’t,and served my wine in a weird cut glass sort of cordial cup. Awkward.
When I got back to my room, I had hoped to wash out a few pairs of underwear, also made difficult by the fact that the stopper for the sink was the wrong size. I had been on a bus for several hours traveling here from another part of the country and really expected and would have liked my travel needs to...
Read morePersonally, I really enjoyed my time at Hotel Menzeh Zalagh and I would return here again, both on my own and with my family. The hotel itself is beautifully furnished and decorated - it has a Moroccan flair with Western touches which is a perfect mix for those who want to explore a new culture while still enjoying familiar comforts. |My room was comfortable and clean, and all the linen smelt fresh. The mini fridge was 100% a God-send and the desk/vanity was also really nice to use for both my skincare routine and catching up on some work emails. Furthermore, the balcony area of the room is a really nice touch - for bird lovers especially, the balcony is a good place for birdwatching and enjoying their morning song.|The breakfast service here is lovely and guests can enjoy a mixture of different foods. I personally enjoyed the yoghurt, and the grilled tomatoes complement the scrambled eggs nicely. Most importantly I want to highlight the lovely staff at the hotel. Whether it was at the restaurant, reception or concierge service, all the staff with whom I spoke were amazing. They were kind and helpful and they made me feel really welcome. I am grateful to say that I had a very positive...
