Stayed here on a group trip with Intrepid. First impressions were great as we were greeted with mint tea and a cookie as we sat in a comfortable air conditioned space.
From there things just went down hill
Hamam We were given a tour and were shown the massage studio and hamam spa. The price list was very competitive. We booked a day in advance. Saida- the assistant manager- then requested full payment of the service the day before to secure the spot. It is unusual to have to pay a 100% deposit. What's worse, is she couldn't tell me their refund policy. I asked what would happen if our tour ran late the next day and they couldn't squeeze us in. She simply said no refund.
Our room on the first floor (I think 116) was dark and oppressive. The little window was extremely tinted so the room felt very dark even with the lights on. The air-conditioning struggled to keep the room cool. The shower attachment was poorly fixed that you had to stand very close to the wall to get wet and the pillows and bed were very uncomfortable. I needed to use my travel pillow and my partner put a decorative cushion in a pillow case to use as a pillow.
We travelled as a couple and they refused to give us a second card to the room.
Saida the manager called our room the next day 6 minutes before our massage appointment and demanded we come down without even a hello, introduction of who it was on the phone or basic manners.
I'm sure she doesn't mean to be rude, it's just clear that she and her team have been trained locally with no international input. She even came up to us during breakfast, whilst we were eating, waving a QR code and requesting feedback for TripAdvisor.
The breakfast spread was horrible. We had to line up to get someone's attention to get a plate. In a country where organges are abundant the only drink they served besides tea and instant coffee was orange cordial.
The location is also poor. We had to taxi to the Medina which was buzzing with activity and was a lot of fun (near the blue gate). The surrounding area of the hotel is fairly industrial and gives ghetto vibes. It doesn't really feel safe walking around the hotel either.
The massage experience was mixed. My partner's masseuse was good. My masseuse massaged me as though she was cleaning a bench top. Unfortunately she didn't speak English and I failed to show her with my demonstration of slowing down and actually massaging some of the muscles. She was very nice though. The whole underground hammam did feel like a tacky nightclub.
I also didn't like how they held onto our passports for almost an hour after we checked in and we had to follow them up to retrieve them.
Overall poor location, average staff that aren't focused on the guest experience, uncomfortable rooms.
Would not recommend staying here. Take your chances in the Medina somewhere and at least you can be close to amenities and entertainment.
@Intrepid do better for your clients and pick a better hotel or at least one in a better area walkable...
Read moreI stayed at this hotel as part of a gadventures tour, when we arrived we were given mint tea and biscuits which was a nice touch. We were shown around the hammam spa area which was downstairs (with odd neon lighting) and given the price list. Some of my fellow travellers went to the spa but I did not. The rooms were comfortable and had everything you need, we had no issue with the hot water for the shower. The hotel is located a short taxi ride for 20 dirhams away from the edge of the medina. There is also a park and shopping centre close by. The breakfast was good and the pastries were fresh but I found it odd that the hotel manager came around to ask us to do a review and insisted we did even when we said we were going out soon and would do it later. Before we left early in the morning I was also asked to do a feedback form while the member of staff watched over me. There is also a ‘club’/ bar area which plays loud music which you can hear from some of the rooms even a few floors above until 2/3am, luckily I had ear plugs otherwise this...
Read moreComfortable stay. Nice room, but not like traditional Moroccan. Nice hot water but took quite a while to reach the happy temperature. First morning, out of two, we had chicken and peppers for breakfast which was delicious, but was not on offer on our second day, so we thought it may have been a left over from previous night. Stubby 'special' local beer was cheaper in the Hotel Mounia bar than in the restaurant where we had dinner. I had a shampoo, cut and blow dry, manicure and pedicure in the salon. Disappointed with hair do! Be warned, Obviously not hair stylists in the salon! The first lady only took a few minutes cutting my hair. I have curly hair and the second lady hadn't got a clue how to treat curly hair. She used no styling product, (apart from hair spray at the end, which I wouldn't put anywhere near my hair!) And she had no diffuser for the hairdryer, and tried to blow dry my curly hair in the traditional way! And what made it worse they couldn't understand English! But the manicure and pedicure made up for my disappointing...
