We spent 6 nights in this hotel. Some may find we are crazy as there is not much to do around, maybe... but this is one of the most relaxing place I’ve been to. Sure, the docks behind are not exactly beautiful, but all the rooms face the ocean and you can walk for miles on the promenade. 3 guards make sure the guests are safe around the hotel. The flamingos and pelicans approach the hotel extremely close, it is genuinely awesome. The pictures I got were amazing. Plus you can experience sunset from your balcony. This is a pity however that there is nothing to sit on the balcony.
The rooms are fine, the bed and pillows are very comfy. The bathroom is dated but everything works. We just had a problem with the safe that was not working and it was taken very seriously by the staff that managed to add a working one immediately. Very good heating unit. The rooms are damp due to the water proximity as some noticed, but there is not much to do about that. The breakfast was plentiful. As for the dinner, well, some meals were excellent, others were average (pity for the frozen French fries for instance). There is not a lot of choice but I guess it is fine for an hotel that has just 50 rooms.
As for the staff, I was mostly very satisfied with the way they interacted with us, the housekeeping ladies were very kind, so were the room service lady and Iyambo and Tulanga at breakfast/dinner. There was always someone at the lobby, they quickly answered my email for the airport transfers, one is even complimentary, which is very nice. We had a special welcome card to highlight my Marriott Rewards status and a fruit platter in the room.
What I really liked was that when you arrive in the bar, you have a panoramic view. However, I noticed that in November 2017, a guest complained that the small cakes and muffins in the bar did not have price tags, leading her to think it was free. The staff replied they would add the price tag. I’m afraid we experienced the same thing because no price tag was added. It was not expensive though.
What more could I say... Surely that we will come back. Chinese groups may shatter your experience from time to time because of how noisy they are and the way they treat the staff, but all in all, I think this is a great...
Read moreWalvis Bay is not a large town so hotels are not widely available. Nevertheless, given paucity of Hotels, this hotel did rate high on TA reviews.|The car I had booked well ahead of time wasn’t there at the Airport. It wasn’t a good feeling to find yourself in a strange country all by yourself. I had to make a few expensive calls, since I had to use my phone which was on roaming, to the hotel. The hotel reception called the driver and had him return to pick me up. This is Africa so getting angry is a waste of time😤.||Check in at the hotel was a breeze and this lovely young lady by the name of Kesia, took care of my check in and during my stay. ||The room was redone (or so I was told) but WiFi was spotty but usable. The room was clean and had a wonderful view of the Bay. The only downer of the room was that water drainage of the shower seemed to be blocked so one had only a limited time to take a shower before the water overflowed into the toilet. I did complain to the Reception but I was leaving after 2 night so I told them to get it done after I’ve left the hotel.||Breakfast was very nice but as being Africa, very dependent on beef. Since I don’t eat beef or pork, I’m always stuck with eggs. There was enough of fruits so I always had a very full breakfast on both days. I had dinner on my first night at the hotel and I must say, I enjoyed the lamb chop which was grilled to my liking and was very filling. ||Overall, a very nice albeit basic hotel (considering where I’ve stayed in) but very nice staff with a special mention to Kesia. She may just be the youngest team member there but always helpful and friendly. I hope the hotel keeps her there since the guests will always be...
Read moreI've stayed at this hotel both in June, 2018 and again in June, 2023. While the hotel does need some updating (and maybe an elevator to the second floor!) the location and staff make up for any lack of renovation. And it was very clean. The service was the best one could hope for. Staff was especially friendly and accommodating. I ordered box lunches for our drive back to Windhoek and they were the best box lunches I've ever had - and extremely affordable. My ground floor room was large with a patio very close to the lagoon esplanade...and the esplanade plus proximity to the jetty was why I chose to stay there. You literally walk out the back door of the hotel and are on the paved esplanade that follows the lagoon for a couple miles. The lagoon is a gathering place for thousands of greater and lesser flamingoes, great white pelicans, cormorants, gulls and terns and herons, a wildlife photographer's paradise. It's also only a two block or so walk to The Jetty where you have a choice of restaurants and day tours of nearby dunes and harbor tours. Location,...
