My wife and I have just spent a few days at Pelican Point Lodge in Walvis Bay, which as an aside is unbelievably good. Whilst staying there we a very charming Brazilian family, the Junqueria's (mother, father and two daughters, one teenaged and the other slightly older). They were very excited to be spending Christmas Day visiting Sandwich Bay Harbour.
Last evening a very distressed and bedraggled Junqueria family arrived back at the Lodge with a harrowing and horrid story of unprofessional tour operators.
On the way to Sandwich Bay, the 4x4 they were in had a tyre blow out. The driver did not have the correct equipment with which to change the tyre. He also did not have a two way radio or other means of calling for help. The driver then disappeared apparently going to look for help. If you know Namibia and the route into Sandwich Bay, it is not for the unprepared or the unprofessional. It is a very tough and hard drive thorough soft desert sand and dunes. You may also not see another human being for hours given that drivers all seem to want to create their own route there.
Imagine the Junqueria family when hours later their driver had not reappeared. They were pretty distressed. They did have water and snacks in the vehicle so at least they did not need to worry about that. After 5 hours a Good Samaritan arrived and gave them a lift back to Walvis Bay.
I wish this story had some happy ending, but it did not. The driver had still not appeared or apologized. The Junqueria's did visit Sandwich Adventure Yours this morning where the"chivalrous" owner operator Joseph offered them 50% of their money back on the basis that they had driven half way there and they had eaten the food etc... they were also told they could visit an attorney should they so desire.
This is not the way to run a business and most certainly not the way to look after the lifeblood of Namibia's economy, i.e., the Tourism Industry.
So to fellow adventure travelers be wary and only choose those operators who come well recommended. Remember the desert is a dangerous and...

Not such a professional to explain natural changing activities about the place, they just take you there and bring you back normally.
Let me add few more as per my own experience. Owner of the company is racist 😳😳. Yes its true. He treat his client on the basis of their color😡😡. First of all, the staff is very unprofessional, rude, ignoring personality, they dont have any cancellation policy or refund policy. But when you urge to have the policy they ask for drop an email and after lot of follow ups, nothing will get. Once you paid for the service, then whether you cancel or they cancel the service you won't get any single bucks. But if you think, you want to experience the tour, you will have to pay again the whole money. There are many more charters you can have their service, if you want to have real professional experience. At the cruise, the guide most of the time stay quite, you need to initiate or ask for marine information. Food quality also not well and much good. One more thing i would like to add, if you already paid or avail for next service i.e. Sandwich Harbour. The guide or service provider still serve you alcohol (which may affect you in desert) but, its their responsibility to guide you or give you knowledge about that. You may feel anxious, unconsiousness, and other health issue in the middle of desert. There are many more things to tell about, but overall rating to this people is 0.
Poeple who have not faced the situation like us, they only like their service because they haven't seen their devil face behind their promotional smiling faces. They are such a real racist.🙏 Driver (Harmen) was about to hit us. Not in words such a...
Read moreOur guide was really nice and the ride in the dunes was very fun!
Although, we are really disappointed - we booked the photography sunset tour for one reason : take photos.
However, the timing at every spot on the way was very tight, not enough time to enjoy the views and take photographs.
When we reach Sandwich Harbor we thought we would be able to finally have enough time to enjoy but no after 10/15min the other three people with us (we didn’t know them) decided to head back to the car putting lot of pressure on us and the guide gave us 5min to finish our photos..
We paid quite a lot of money for this tour hopping to take photos at the best time of the day and ended up with lots of disappointment to not have had enough time to fully enjoy the place. Instead we continued our drive down the dunes with a very nice pique-nique (I have to give credit for that) but we would rather continued shooting photos at sunset since we booked a “Photography Sunset Tour”
Sunset Tour, would be more...
