Good place to stay but do not expect too much. I booked it as a MR award, so please take note of this as my rating would have been different if my bookings there were revenue based.
The lobby staff, well it depends, some are extremely kind and helpful, others seem a bit bored but they do the job. The porters are very friendly.
The first room we had (115) was average. The mattresses were dead, we only had one towel for 2 (it took 24hrs to get the second one). Pillows average as well. We had electric sparks in a power outlet under the desk. The hair dryer is connected in a very weird way to this power outlet, take caution. The heating unit has its own mind regarding the temperature, certainly an issue with the probe. The maintenance came quickly and probably disconnected the probe to « solve » the issue but this has not been fixed correctly.
The first night there was no hot water in the bathroom but it was hopefully solved the days after.
The rooms on the right wing, 1st floor, have a terrace that you can enjoy to tan but at 3PM it is over as the sun is on the other side of the hotel.
The second room (212) was in better shape, if I can call it this way (tape on the hair dryer wire for instance). Good heating unit, better bathroom, no electric sparks, better mattresses. It was cleaner as well.
The breakfast was great, as the food of the restaurant. But there is a big problem with the service that is too slow. A waitress told me this was related to the 2 chefs that are too slow. I’m not so sure... once we were left waiting 1hr before someone came to take our order, this is not the first time it happens in a Protea and it is most of the time a lack of training. It is a pity when the food is fine. The issue is the conferences held there on a frequent basis, there are too much people to serve and the staff is overwhelmed by the work. They are kind but they should learn to cope with stress, this is everyday life in the...
Read moreThe staff were very friendly and helpful otherwise I would have given one star. So credit is owed to Moses and Hendrick. One arrival the toilet was still dirty, air con condensed on the inside and dripped on the carpet making the carpet wet, sliding door to outside area was difficult to lock through excessive wear. The king size bed used two mattresses with different heights, a bit odd? The Wifi was an absolute shocker and mostly useless and when you do connect its extremely slow. For a business trip Wifi is critical. The Wifi was less than ideal when running a conference. No US dollars are accepted so change your cash before you arrive. Some incorrect bar and food charges against my room upon departure left a bitter taste in my mouth even though they were refunded. Menu is on the expensive side for what you get. Not my normal Protea experience. I'm quite sure I won't stay here again. I've experienced much better for the equivalent price in Windhoek, from rooms to meals to connectivity to actual...
Read moreMy experience at this hotel was very bad. Booked a stay for 5 days, but only stayed one night.
Marriott should definitely reconsider attaching its name to this hotel. It's not what you'd expect from the brand. The hotel is OK, as a low end budget hotel (Like 500N$ a room hotel, anything more would be a rip off).
The hotel is old. Some dirt and smells just doesn't go away. They could at least replace the worn out mattresses.
On the plus side, staff were super friendly. Namibians are wonderful people.
When I expressed my discomfort with the room and that it was not to the standard advertised, they refused to refund me for the week. However, eventually let check out after 1 night and agreed to a refund for the remaining 4 nights. Will see if they honor that. Gave them 2 stars for recognising their short comings as a hotel and allowing the customer to leave with a refund. However, if they don't honor the refund, will downgrade to 1 star and a buyer be...
