Hotel Kaze Darbar is definitely a place to stay if you visit Kathmundu, Nepal. The place is good, the rooms are spacious and the food is great too. You will get a rural feeling and a sensation of peace by staying there. ||||But the most important feature is not the place or the foods or how it is decorated, it is the people inside. Everybody is very decent and friendly. They welcomed us with big smiles and tended to our every needs. ||||As it was an official trip, they helped us with all the necessary papers or receipts required by the office. Mr. Sanu also suggested us a place to buy good Pashminas. And i am glad that i stayed in Hotel Kaze Darbar. ||||One thing i would like to point out to the Hotel manager is to provide shampoos in washrooms. Also, as Nepali tea is quite an attraction for tourists and tea/coffee is kind of a need for some or most people, it would have been nice if tea/coffee was provided as complimentary at least once/twice a day. ||They do include tea/coffee in the breakfast menu but if you want to have a cup of tea/coffee in the afternoon or in the evening, you have to pay for it. This is not a negative point of the hotel. Rather think of it as an improvement suggestion.||||But overall i am delighted to have been welcomed by Hotel Kaze Darbar and I would very much love to stay there again if i ever visit Kathmundu, Nepal again. ||||Please accept my deepest gratitude Hotel...
Read moreAs a first-timer to Kathmandu, having a quiet place to retreat to made all the difference, it really was a sanctuary after navigating the immense energy of a Third World city all week. It is not in ground zero of the tourist district, but within a 10 minute walk of Thamel (crazy - we took cheap taxis), ATMs, modern shopping etc. and 10-15 min from airport by taxi. Property: two story, a nicely restored, vintage residence built around two courtyards in a residential neighborhood. Ample lobby and conference room areas, spacious indoor/outdoor dining with cold beer, wine, and safe ice if you BYOB. Clean, thoughtfully appointed and cared-for. Restful, charming, Old World personality - expect low doors, nice beds, and hot water AM and PM when you need it. Staff: professional, good communication skills (English+), adept at problem solving and committed to customer service. Cannot say enough good things about the Front Desk staff (Sanu and Nirjala and others), management, dining room, and housekeeping. Taxis readily available, friendly gatekeeper. This is not a 5 star downtown palace, but a quality hotel that met my needs in every important way. I cannot understate how much I appreciated being able to retreat from the outside world and relax with friends in a quiet setting. I saw several groups of business people during my stay. Menu leans toward Japanese and Nepali,...
Read moreMy friend and I stayed here four times during May 2024, using it as a Kathmandu base to see this region of the world. We could not have been happier there. It is down a short lane, tucked away from the big city hustle and bustle, making it feel like a retreat. If my memory serves me correct, this colonial building has previously been a monastery and school; it's full of atmosphere with courtyards, wooden beams, and thick walls. Rooms are clean, comfortable, and not expensive. The local area has a pleasant park, lots of restaurants, and is a short walk from commercial chain hotels such as the Marriott, with rooftop bars that let you see the neighborhood and distant hills. Best of all were the entire staff at Hukum Darbar. Rarely have we encountered being taken care of so much. They were courteous, pleasant, and exceptionally eager to make sure we were comfortable and had what was needed. When we left, we were sad to say goodbye to them--and vice versa! We were grateful to everybody there, including (but not limited to) Alisha, Ayesha, and Brabina - pictured...
