We intended to stay at Hotel Goodwill for our weeklong trip to Nepal, but we stayed only one night. The staff who operate this hotel are sweet, so I hate to leave a negative review, but I want other travelers to be able to make informed decisions.
We were charged $57/night for a deluxe triple. I made the mistake of paying in advance. On our first night the room was so smoky we decided to leave a window open to air the room out. This didn’t improve the situation, but actually made it worse. I think we were next door to a location that had open fires, maybe cooking fires, because in the wee hours of the morning there was a very strong odor if woodsmoke. Shortly after the woodsmoke came the sewage smells. On top of this there was the incessant barking of multiple dogs most of the night, and at some points the barking was very raucous.
The restaurant food was okay, but service was a bit chaotic, as if the wait staff didn’t know what to do with a guest.
When I notified the staff that we were checking out, I was willing to split the difference so that it wasn’t too much of a loss, but they refused to refund me any of the money. They made up the excuse that they had already closed out the register, but this was 4 in the afternoon, and it is a hotel with a restaurant and bar.
We went down the road to a locally owned, high-end hotel, where the atmosphere was very peaceful, and we still had a very...
Read more28 March, 2019 - note that the hotel is currently undergoing renovation. We stayed and had to walk through(!!) a construction site to get to our room. Lots of construction dust and debris being thrown around and no protection for patrons. Booked a basic room but were upgraded to "deluxe" because all basic rooms were under renovation. The bed was comfortable, but the linens were not clean. Bedbugs present. Shower didn't drain and thus flooded the entire bathroom. Why spend all the money renovating and not even willing to put a cheap plastic seal between the shower and the rest of the bathroom?? Such a basic thing. Service is good. Staff are accommodating to your requests. Food in the restaurant is good. No issues with food poisoning. Location isn't great, so it's somewhat overpriced considering what you get and the location it's at. Summary: Overpriced. Wait until renovations are completed before staying here. And...
Read moreThe hotel is family owned and they took care of us like family. Room are spacious and warm during the night. The food here is authentic and very reasonable priced. They have a big courtyard with many statues of Hindu and Buddhist gods. The location at first might be taunting at first sight, as the hotel is located at a suburb that is for locals. But after one day strolling the nearby streets, I met the nicest people you can possibly meet at a foreign country. No scams for tourists at the hotel or nearby neighborhood. And its within walking distance to the Patan Palace. One trouble is you might find taxi drivers not knowing the way to the hotel, make sure you get a name card from the lobby, and have the driver call the hotel for directions. Overall I am so glad I choosen Goodwill for my...
