Arrived and found out I had to pay a $200 bond, it wasn't returned until cleaning staff cleaned your room. Not even sure that is legal, so we had to leave without it being returned. Which left us short of money. We took photos of room as although it was clean and spacious it had lot of marks on floor, walls curtains etc didn't want to be billed for other people's damage. Rooms were very noisy, gap in blind so had to always go into bathroom to change. Would not recommend this motel. Although I did notice they had mentioned about Bond on my Bill from Trip, I hadnt looked that far down on the receipt. It was not in a noticeable place when looking on Trivago this should be somewhere very noticeable as I would not have booked if I had known in advance. Four other groups where complaining about the same thing. I understand that the motels want protection but take the card number and charge if there is damage. Or person at desk starts earlier and checks room as person checks out and then return money. Don't leave good people with out their money no on. Victoria Apartments is down the road, you can look up the reviews for Victoria Hotel and see has a very different review rating than Hygate.||||Issues included ||1. No access. Key card not working, stuck outside our room at 11.30pm.||||2. Ants in the bed in the lounge.||||3. No hot water at all. Never was able to shower.||||Bonus round:||4. Rude staff. Thought they were there at 9am to fix our shower, turns out they were trying to get us out an hour early.||5. Kettle cord doesn't reach the plug. No milk. Just annoying...||6. No extra blankets, nothing in any cupboards. Was cold.||||When we drove to Hygate reception to check out we were told the only way to get a refund was to speak to a manager. But managers don't work on the weekend. But they also don't work during the week. But they also have no phone line. And the only way to contact them is to email our complain to info@hygate.co.nz. We were staying from out of town, to do some shopping in Hamilton.||||On our arrival we were shocked to see most rooms were occupied by people from ministry of social well fare.||||Outside our room was covered in smoke buds.||||We didn’t get any sleep, people from outside our room from 10pm to early hours were playing music in there rooms, in there cars. Yelling and screaming, kids running outside up and down, cars coming and going, then at around 5am someone knocked on the door demanding cash that we apparently owed them.
