Nikau Lodge — Hotel in Kaikōura

We recently stayed at Nikau Lodge. The rooms were a little small but very clean and comfortable. The rooms didn’t have very good sound proofing you could hear other people in other rooms and also overlooked by other rooms hence needed to keep blinds closed. We would have liked a fridge in the room to have our own milk, and maybe to chill wine. There was a shared fridge on the landing but this was shared between 3/4 rooms. It also meant you had to go out your room of a morning to get milk to make tea/coffee. There was also quite a bit of road noise so not helpful if you are a light sleeper.

Saying all that we were made very welcome and the breakfasts were excellent, a good start to the day. It was also good that you could walk into town and the hot tub was a nice touch.

We stayed at Nikau lodge for the weekend and it provided all the goods and more! Mick and Karen are the most lovely hosts, very accomodating with local knowledge and full of great tips and advice to get the most out of our stay in Kaikoura. Mick's breakfasts were incredible! We were well fuelled for our hike up Mt Fyffe after the big breakfast and to soak in the spa afterwards was just what was needed. This beautiful boutique B&B makes you feel right at home - with gorgeous decor, incredible views from the rooms, welcoming hosts (Jazz the pooch included) and the aroma of a warm breakfast awaiting you each morning, what more could you want? A great B&B a short walk from the town centre. Best one we have stayed in (out of 3) on our trip around the south Island. Lovely spacious room and the most gorgeous toiletries! Plus great views. Little things make a difference when travelling like the cotton wool and buds in the bathroom. It is the only B&B that has also provided body lotion and of good quality too. Free wine and beer are available in a special fridge especially for the lovely guest rooms. Such good breakfasts. I love my cooked cheese and tomato croissant. Great hosts and nothing is too much trouble. So good to get the washing done too! Will miss this place when we move o tomorrow. A great...
