Middlehurst Station Farm Store butchery in Kaikoura is a hidden gem that should not be missed by meat enthusiasts. Despite stumbling upon it by chance, the exceptional quality of the sausages makes it a standout establishment in the area. The 'Free Farmed Pork and Fennel Sausages' are delightful, but the 'Angus Beef and Speights Summit Sausages' are truly sensational, surpassing expectations with their rich flavour and quality.
Originating from Middlehurst Station in the remote mountains of the Awatere Valley in Marlborough, the meat used in these sausages is sourced from a challenging high country farming environment, adding to the authenticity and unique taste of the products. As someone with a discerning palate for meats and barbecues, originally from the Balkans, I consider these sausages to be among the best in New Zealand.
My positive experience and high praise for Middlehurst Station Farm Store warrant a rare five-star rating, indicating a strong recommendation for others to try their offerings. For those seeking top-notch sausages that stand out for their exceptional quality and flavour, Middlehurst Station Farm Store butchery is definitely...
Read moreAs a NZer who values our sheep and beef farmers for producing some of the best animal protein in the world, it's means a lot to have this family driven farm to plate experience available on our many trips between Canterbury and Marlborough. Today our eyes couldn't go past the beautiful cabinet and we came away with merino lamb loin chops and beef & black garlic patties for our holiday menu, after downing a delicious mince pie, chocolat pastries and well built hot drinks to fuel the next leg of our trip. We also snatched a couple of bottles of Al Brown's sauce we had been enticed to buy as the kasundi ketchup was generously available at the counter to have with our pie. I cannot support this business concept enough which brings kiwis and visitors closer to our farmers and producers. Such a generous experience for us all which is evolving beautifully. Thank you, best wishes...

I suspect the breed is smaller than many traditional “eating” breeds, so perhaps the cuts are smaller than standard butchers offerings. However the flavour and texture more than make up for that. Call me...
