The Craypot Kitchen & Bar Kaikoura — Restaurant in Kaikōura

One of the problem with many restaurants that i like is that their food or service were not consistant. I have visited Craypot Kitchen many times, and their food is consistantly well cooked and presented. I have bring friends over and they never disappoint. I am confident to recommend them to people visiting kaikoura. I usually order their monk fish taco, open steak sandwich, and love their tiramisu that comes with that intricate honeycomb crisp. My friends had ordered seafood chowder, chicken, and all of them love what they had.

It is a chill and relatively quiet place compared to other restaurants i visited in Kaikoura. Their service is consistantly top notch too. One of the guy working there is always friendly and smiley. Happy place to eat. I really hope they continue to maintain their excellent standard.

The only area they possibly could do better is their baked muffin and dessert on the cabinet. For me they are just...

Had a great "faulty towers" type night here. Only went as couldn't get in to Zephyr and the waitress there recommended the Craypot. Faulty start,,,the greeting guy was also the food and drink delivery guy but no table service. That was ok! Lined up and Mum, the service boss, took our drinks order, writing it all out longhand etc etc etc and we sat. Wrong wine came ! took it to the counter...mum says whoops we're all out of pinot noirs !!!! mmm about to leave restaurant and suddenly a way better bottle is found and...it's very good. Order food....food comes but wrong order for wife ??? whoops...sorry. She says she will have it anyway and....it was also very good (fish tacos) simple but fresh and tasty. Open on Boxing Day. Very crowded, around a 45 minute wait on peak timings. The staff were pleasant and kind. Clam Chowder Soup was delicious and had substantial clams in size and quantity. The garlic breads were delicious and fragrant. Half a Crayfish was enough for 5 people, and the meat was firm and juicy, and in the lemon juice and butter was amazing. Fish and Chips were light and crispy, though a bit small in portion for a single person, with fries taking a majority. The Calamari Salad was delicious, crispy calamari and a sour and fresh salad that cut through the heavy stuff in the meal. The 1kg Large portion of Oysters in White wine was delicious, with the sauce being so salty but pairing well with the oysters. Overall, I would highly recommend this place for a night out...
