I dont know how anyone is rating this with anything more than one star. I stayed here for 3 days through my Company and I will not be letting them pay to put me up here again, I would rather take a motel down the road. The saving grace to this scathing review was the lady behind reception, Alison, the lady who was working in the restaurant 16/03 and the Strawberry Crepe Cheesecake. Hotel room bed: horrible. Two single beds put together meaning the middle of the bed is unable to be laid on because the two mattresses did not meet flush. Extremely uncomfortable. The last night of my stay I finally fell asleep at 4am for 3 hours. TV: I used it on my second night, went tot turn it on but did not turn on, people came to my room to fix with no success. Went for a run and turns out that the power cable in the back of the tv had been unplugged. Later the same night the remote stopped working meaning I had to call reception at 10:20pm. Also, the TV and info card in the room both say hat you can screen cast from your device. I followed the onscreen instructions but could not get Netflix to stream across. Dinner: I ate in the restaurant with a work colleague on 16/03. upon arriving at the bar I saw that the restaurant was full with Chamber of Commerce; fair enough. I spoke to the barman who said that the room would be cleared by 18:30 and restaurant free to eat in. At 18:40 I thennn asked how long until we could eat in the restaurant. This then changed to once the people had left the restaurant. In the end it was 19:45 that we were able to be seated in the restaurant. If we had known this we would have eaten somewhere else. I still wish we had of. The two male waiters on duty were useless. I asked for the Mussels and received the starter but had no additional plate to put the shells so had to ask for one at the bar. No one took / proactively came to ask for drinks the whole time. My colleague asked if we could order drinks, the waiter took his drinks order and left before I could order my drink. I then had to wait for the lady to come back with the drink to the order mine. Lack of attention and professionalism from the Waiters meant the dining experience was extremely poor. The Chef (at least I think they were) cooked my Steak (ordered as medium rare) and my colleagues (ordered as medium) well done. As a side note, the table next to us complained that the lamb dish contained way too much pesto. So we were not the only unimpressed table there. Room service: The last night of my stay I went out for dinner, knowing I would be back around 20:30 / 21:00 I pre-ordered a cheesecake for dessert to arrive at 21:00. I get a call 40 minutes later from the hotel, whilst out for dinner, letting me know that my room service was ready and they had been trying to knock on my door. Breakfast: 18/03 I ordered a Mocha, Eggs Benedict with bacon and a fruit plate. The "barista" sent me a coffee with chocolate powder heaped all over the top. For anyone that doesn't drink coffee, or for the Scenic "barista" this does NOT constitute a mocha. The eggs benedict had strong hints of vinegar throughout and the fruit plate was presented to me. I thought I had been given apple on the plate until I realised it was an unripe pear. There was also another fruit on the plate, however, I was unable to confirm what it was as this was also unripe and extremely sour. Lunch: There is a 24 hour room menu. Unfortunately, it seems that depending on who makes your meal dictates how you get it. This is not right and should be a standardised approach with training rolled out to those who may be required to make a meal from the 24 hour menu should the chef be absent. I got the Toasted Sandwich twice. Both times, it was Cheese, red onion and Ham. First time, the toasted sandwich was correct with melted cheese in. It was yum so ordered it again as it is the only lunch thing on that menu. This time it came out with cold fillings. Standardise! DO NOT RECOMMEND TO YOUR...
Read moreMy son and daughter inlaw warned me not to be here and I almost didn't book after the staff member was rude on the phone while booking. Upon arrival was greeted by a young staff member named Jack who was absolutely fantastic! Polite, courtesy, well presented and welcoming you need more Jacks working here. Room was basic, dated bathroom but clean and tidy. View was terrible from level 4 and lots of noise at night. Had to sleep with the window open because the heat pump remote didn't work to change the temperature which left us with either a hot room when pump was off or freezing when it was on. We utilized the restaurant twice, for dinner and breakfast and both experiences were disappointing to say the least. In the evening we ordered sour dough bread and the chicken tenders for starters which were a waste of time and money. $10-12 for two slices of bread was completely over priced and the chicken tenders were tiny, about the length and thickness of my thumb, and only 4 of them. Had the fish for our main which was nice but again over priced for 2 small pieces. Upon leaving the restaurant we asked the reception staff, an older European woman, if we could have a room service menu to which she proceeded to question as to why we wanted one when we had just left the restaurant. I had to explain that we may want dessert in the room later for her to finally hand one over. Bed was uncomfortable and again lots of noise from the road etc. We booked for the buffet breakfast at 9am which was a complete waste of time! EVERYTHING was cold including the tea! The potatoes tasted like they had been re heated from the dinner service left overs the night before, the toast was so cold the hard butter wouldn't spread and the eggs looked like they had been sitting out for some time. On the upside the location was superb which is what had attracted us to try before booking our staff and their families in for our weekend long company Christmas work function later this year. The shower was fantastic and powerful however the toiletries seemed to be half empty. Price was good at $220 and was excited to see they are pet friendly as we travel a lot to the Hawkesbay with our dog, however unfortunately wont be...
Read moreLovely hotel, situated on Marine Parade. Quick check in with good directions to my room.
Room was well appointed, with great views out over the ocean and the beach. Lots of nice touches, with high quality linen. Bed was super plush and comfortable.
Unfortunately it would have to rank as the worse sleep ever in a hotel. The doors slam shut, and it seemed there was a party going on in the rooms further down the hallway. More of a people problem then a hotel problem, but it made sleeping impossible. It was hard to diagnose which room it was coming from, due to a large and noisy conditioning unit in the hallway that obliterated all sound in. It was only in my room that you could hear the commotion going on. Swear I would start to drift off, and people would start knocking on doors, playing music and just generally being a pain!
Reception were extremely helpful, with a guy bringing me a key to a different room at 1am. I was able to leave my gear where it was, and head down to the new room to get some sleep. New room was very quiet, and the couple of hours sleep I got before my early flight were very restful.
Apart from the noise, the only other complaint was that the TV and Heatpump remotes both had flat batteries, hardly the end of the world though.
I would definitely stay here again, the beds are super comfortable, good bathroom and beautiful views out over the Pacific. Staff are very attentive and helpful. Hope next time there isn't a party going on next door, and I can get a decent sleep!
One improvement could be adjusting the doors so they dont slam shut, as they will...
