Napier War Memorial Centre — Attraction in Napier

Fantastic daylight flooded venue, when using the ballroom. Great views out to sea and along the coast (photo). Good sound system and good visibility of "stage action". Great (light strong) projector system, as no darkening of the venue was required. So nobody had to sit in the dark over the two day Wetland Symposium just held there... Maybe not totally ideal size/access to bathrooms and amounts of cubicles looking at venue size. Catering was well done and tasty and delivered without disturbance of participants. Ground floor breakout rooms less ideal for projector needing presentations, as already second row seated have trouble to see past the person in front due to low ceiling (low projection height). Seats downstairs and upstairs looked generously spaced, but when seated, felt too close (like in an air plane, when food is getting served and you have to tuck your elbows in a lot). Short haired white blond woman treated me as if we was below her. There were no manners, she entered into the conversation like it was her right to do so when we weren't even speaking to her in the 1st place. Then continued to tell us we were in the wrong when clearly she didnt hear the full questions to begin with. So, if you happen to enter the building, aim for that one receptionist, and dont acknowledge anyone else unless they excuse themselves in. If you dress to success then perhaps your mouth and manners should follow! Not impressed by the constant stares and filthy looks, its not YOUR place to judge, its your place to be polite! Brilliant place for a conference, but if it is a big conference then parking will be a big issue. The car parks at the venue are very limited and all day parking near by is very little. It is handy though to the motels and hotels on marine parade and within easy walking distance of all of them. Catering for conference attendees is superb. Very clean, tidy and comfortable venue.
