Not including the bathroom, there were seven lighting fixtures and only two of them worked. The room was very dark. I mentioned to one of the housekeepers that one of the bedside lights wasn't working and she said she'd have a look. When I came back, nothing had changed. The light still wasn't working. There was also a row of sconces along the back of the bed and they didn't even have lightbulbs in them. The room was very dark and I think it's an accessibility issue. My parents were in a room at the other end of the hall, and their lights all worked and had lightbulbs. Their air conditioning unit was also able to pump out lots of cold air, which was needed because it was a hot night. I made sure the air con unit in my room had the exact same settings and the only way I could tell it was working is if I hovered my hand directly over the unit itself. It didn't cool the room at all, and it was an uncomfortable night's sleep.
The only cutlery in the room was two teaspoons. No knives or forks, and no plates. I had to eat my morning kiwifruit over the bathroom sink and I had to cut it open with the handle of a teaspoon.
The reception hours are erratic at best and you have to check in at annoying times seeing as it was only staffed for a few hours.
There was a miscommunication with the room bookings (which was not the fault of the hotel), but the receptionist was incredibly rude about it.
Other than that, the room was generally okay. The bed and pillows were very comfy, the shower had decent pressure, and it was mostly pretty quiet.
Even though the room was generally fine, I won't be staying...
Read moreI stayed at this property for three nights. The property is located on the outskirt of Napier's shopping/dining/entertainment precinct. It seemed to be the only positive point I could relate during my stay. ||||When I checked in, the front desk tried to overcharge $60 on the room bill and said that it was what their system showed, until I showed the booking confirmation they sent me. What was underwhelming was their attitude that they could only be correct until they were shown otherwise.||||There is a lack of secure parking on the premises. If you can't find one during your stay, you will have to use on street parking nearby. There is a pub and some restaurants near to this hotel so it may not always be easy to find a parking slot. Also, finding a safe on-street park can be a bigger challenge esp. at night when some people may have drunk a few more pints from the pub. It is definitely a concern for those who drive and stay.||||The room was in a decent size and the furnishing was fine. The windows and balcony were a bit dated and filthy. A splash of new paint and occasional deep cleaning should have fixed them.||||The service during my stay was fair. Daily room cleaning was late (done after 3pm) but with labour shortage it was understandable.||||I would not consider staying at this place again because of the problems...
Read moreWhere to start. The location is good for the art deco area and seafront. There is a Woolworths across the square too and lots of nearby cafes and restaurants. Housekeeping did a good job. After that, it is all pretty poor. The " free parking" is for 10 modest size cars with a driver and banksman each to negotiate the pillars. Good luck on getting a space. The spacious room we were promised had just about enough floor space to open suitcases. The connecting door to the room next door was impossible to lock. We didn't know the people next door. To undermine our security further the in- room safe didn't work, nor did the fridge cool down. The bathroom had a tiny hand basin usually used in cloakrooms, and a small single shelf for your toiletries, carefully positioned for yor stuff to fall in the lav. We would have mentioned all this to a receptionist, but we saw one only twice, once on check in. Mostly there are no staff in the building as far as we could tell. Last irony, I had to wait until we left so I can upload this review as the " high speed...
