We stayed here for three nights in our tent. We booked over the phone and advised of the size of our group and tents so they put us across three adjacent sites, which we thought was generous before we arrived. After we arrived, we could see why they'd selected three sites - the sites are tiny. We just fit two tents and two cars on but there wasn't any space left for guy ropes. The road is a hairpin at the top in the cheap seats where they'd put us and the road is just a single lane wide and is completely unlit at night. It wouldn't surprise me if somebody has their head crushed whilst sleeping in a tent if somebody can't make that tight turn trying to reach the car park on the left or tents further up. It's especially tight if there's tents to the right and parking on the left. If you view the camp on Satellite view on Google Maps you'll see what I mean - it's the Z shaped junction just south of reception at the main gate. It's an accident waiting to happen.
There's also an obvious but unspoken demarcation point where the middle shower block is - all the sites to the West are the nice ones with bushes around that you see in all the photos, with a brand new toilet and shower block, whilst all the sites to the East of there are tiny sites with no privacy where they dump the families with kids. It's fair enough that they group those with kids as the kids play together, and those without kids would probably appreciate the reduced noise, but I feel quite mislead as all the photos only show the good side with bushes and privacy and not a single photo of the Eastern side. The Eastern side is like festival camping with no privacy at all.
The Eastern shower block is also in serious need of renovation, and the single toilet and single urinal just aren't enough for the 30 or so sites on that side of camp. The urinal is one of the old steel wall types and absolutely stinks day and night. It's that bad that with a breeze you can even smell it in the kitchen. There's also some basic maintenance that hasn't been completed in years. For example, the shower sprays water everywhere as the shower curtain hangs on the wrong side of the divider, so water runs all the way through the bathroom. Not a huge deal if you wear shoes, but it's unnecessarily slippery as simply fixing the shower curtain position would solve the problem. Another issue is that the shelves in the showers are tilted at 30 degrees as they're old and have come away from the wall so your dry stuff falls onto the dirty wet floor. Nothing that a handyman couldn't fix in 10 minutes with a new bracket and two screws, but I'll bet it's been like that for years as it's the same in ALL of the showers, men's and women's. One of our group tried the newer West side shower blocks and, while much nicer, found them to be scalding hot if set too far to warm - there's obviously no tempering valve on them (or it isn't set correctly). There are other frustrating issues around like these that wouldn't take much to fix and would make the place a lot better, but I won't list them all as I'd probably just be wasting my time.
The staff were friendly and facilities generally OK, but overall a mixed experience due to the cramped and potentially dangerous layout of the sites and the pretty basic maintenance that hasn't been completed in years. For the price you pay, it's just "OK". Not sure we'd go again unless the price was lowered to reflect the current facilities or the facilities fixed up to reflect the...
Read moreHonestly, it was excellent until there was an issue with abusive staff referencing my age in argument where I was trying to ascertain the legitimacy of some rules, which included leaving windows alone because of some smell or dampness in the building which was fine I can absolutely follow rules but the problem occurred when I thought that it was just simply because they did not want to open them in the morning, instead of correcting me on this he decided to bully me for my age so I agreed to the rules he had place gave them the details of every other reason I was there for instance payment for another week and a glass which i had knocked off the cubboard while trying to grab something when i was preparing dinner, left took a minute to reflect, and then decided to apologize if I had made any offense I do not think I was at fault but it's always important to give people the benefit of the doubt after I had apologized and worked through it with him he decided to accuse me of being problematic stating that I was a danger to other staff I assured him I was not, just at that moment another staff member came in the other manager she called me weird stating that I had been talking to myself which to be honest a 24 year old man that's been a victim of abuse his whole life from both the community and his family is quite understandable, I am only thinking if you find that weird or unapproachable then that fault lies entirely with you, I do not have many friends as defending myself from the circumstances I was born in has left me quite lonely, I shoulder my burden and the mistakes I've made like anyone else with honesty and integrity even the things that I have been held accountable for are both untrue and fabricated but I would like to say that up until that incident this park was amazing lovely views lovely areas and lots of thing to do it is missing a mini bar but has many things like spa and play areas for both children and adults. The fishing facilities are excellent aswell some integral problems include coat hangers off of shower doors toilets having unclenly areas and broken pieces and lastly showers having a lack of water pressure and flow these are minor problems but one that do make a large difference, apologies for any emotional backlash this may cause. Maybe better service training and better supervision, although apart from these aspects, I have enjoyed my stay although they have called the police to do a welfare check on me which I find to be quite unprofessional considering my ability and willingness to explain my...
Read moreOverall - self contained family unit was dirty, damp, dank, uncomfortable beds and chairs, unsafe for small children, essentially no wifi, do not recommend
Very disappointed with our room here. Staying in one of the self contained family units (number 4), for 2 nights. This is written on our first evening (also updated the following morning).
Floors do not feel clean. Between dirty and damp your feet will stick to the lino if you don't wear socks.
It is extremely damp inside, there is no air conditioning so no way to dehumidify. All the condensation you see in the picture is INSIDE (taken in the morning).
Beds are very thin and HARD, you can feel every coil.
ANTS are living and dying in the door seal of the refrigerator.
Lots of mold/mildew all around the windows and in bathroom.
Only heat is a couple radiant wall heaters which don't do much for the overall temperature but are still very hot to the touch, plus a smaller space heater which is just dangerous to leave running. No safe at all for kids.
Very few channels on the TV and none of them showing kids programming so be warned of that.
Wifi is a joke. We get 1 bar of wifi signal and we're right near the reception building. It's also capped at 1gb a day so not unlimited even if you do manage to stay connected.
The cookware is old, warped, and needs to be replaced, there is just one plug in hub, induction. There is only 2 sauce pots, no frying pan (there is one but it's not induction compatible so not even sure why it's here). So you'll need your own pan.
Plates were stacked still wet from whenever the last people used them.
No phone in the room, either, so you'd have to go down and talk to reception in person because they don't answer the main line anyway.
The only good thing I can say about this place is we do have a decent view (although partially obstructed by cabins in front of us) and it is located close to shops and restaurants.
I'll update...
