Koromiko Homestay — Hotel in North Island

We only stayed for one night, but really loved this place. Chris, Kris & Andy, the hosts, were all great -- friendly, helpful and hospitable. We felt like part of the family. Plus our room was totally awesome! We stayed in the Sky Room (I think), and it really fit it's name. The room sticks out from the house and is half windows with views over the city and up at the sky. It really was amazing! And the rest of the house was really fun and funky too. First we drove up the maze of winding roads to the house, then we walked up the 40 steps (I didn't count them, but that's what they said), and then there's the multi-level multi-color, multi-shape house. It's really cool! It's a real piece of art. And it's actually pictured and described in a book about the architect. Wow! It was fun seeing it, and driving around the neighborhood to try to find a good place to get a picture of it. With it's perch up on the hill, the views were incredible. Although it was hard sleeping, at least for me, because I couldn't help watching the moon wander across the sky and watch the city lights below. What a fun experience! Second time staying at this awesome place. After my first one night experience had to come back here for an extended stay. The home and garden offer fantastic views over Wellington and the bay, while being only a short walk from the city centre. The house is an amazing architectural oddity with the fabulous secluded private gardens offering beautiful spots for intimate picknicks or open-air bathing. Can't recommend it highly enough. I arrived there on my first night in New Zealand, & was humbly wowed by the night time view, until the next morning brought the morning view from my room on the top floor. I stayed 3 nights & was well looked after by Kris & Chris (Andy wasn't there), & part of the wonderful experience was meeting the other house-guests from diverse backgrounds & all over the world, LGBT & LGBT-friendly.
