Aro Cafe — Restaurant in North Island

I was visiting wellington for a short holiday and chose this place to eat at because of how convinent it was. However I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food and great service. They had a large range of options for meals whether it be breakfast, brunch, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner or dessert. Caters to dietary requirements very well, including gluten free, vegetarian. Only reason it's not 5 stars is the fact that it was extremely loud which made it difficult to have a conversation with the person across from me and the food took a little longer than expected. I honestly have no idea why this place is so highly rated… when I lived in Aro valley it was local so tried having food about 3 times and each time it was awful. After getting an omelette with a layer of raw egg still I was put off and didn’t return until today. Thought I would give a fresh chance as it had been a few years since my last experience and was very underwhelmed. Expensive burger for a tiny side of undercooked fries and very average brisket that looked and tasted like precooked supermarket brisket. Vege lasagne was just ok. Vegan baking and lunch options! I adore this wee cafe. I always order their pot of Chai with a side of soy milk and honey. If you want to sit for a while you can even get your pot of tea refilled. I got six cups out of my chai the other day!

Swapping milk for soy milk doesn’t cost when you get tea. Don’t know about coffee.

Their Banana Chocolate Bread is exceptional and vegan. Highly recommend. If you’re vegan request Olivani or no butter.
