Seriously old. This is an $80 motel that charges $180. When was the last time you had to climb into a bath to have a shower? And only a curtain - no proper doors. No exhaust fan either. Someone had installed a spotlight to shine on the kitchen bench. Then they installed the microwave and blocked the light so the sink is now in darkness! The place is not smoke free so smoke fumes drift in if you dare to open a window. The smoker's table or the back was filthy black. The place is right on the main road and the main trunk railway line is directly across the road. Trains and trucks rumble through all night. We won't be going back.

Seriously outdated. I am not a fussy traveler but this place needs a massive revamp. Traffic noise is another level rumbling all through the night. Decor is from the 70s. Had three nights booked stayed reluctantly 1 then left. Sorry team but this place needs a massive reality check cannot understand how or who in their right mind thinks it's a 4.5 star rating. Photos are not the real experience in their web site, note the kitchen sink and the kids play ground is across the road not even on premises (bowl under the unwiped table ).

Great hotel and the owner Dean is super nice and fun to talk to. He gives you coffee, a cookie, tea, and the room is super nice and well maintained. Wifi password is actually on the wall in the room (more places need to do this) so you don't have to ask for it.

I stayed in a one bedroom room for two nights. The room was large, clean and the bed comfortable. I did not find there to be any problem with road noise as some reviews mentioned. The kitchen was well equipped with a stove top and supplies however one of the other rooms set off the main fire alarm while cooking and who I think were the owners had to come to shut it off. I did not smell anything burning and just surmised that their alarms are super sensitive. Because of this, I was reluctant to use their stove so I just made some simple meals during my stay without the use of the stove top. I had an issue with their shower. The tub had two faucets, one ran hot water and the other cold. I could not figure out how to get the shower running though. There was some handle by the shower head that would not budge when I tried to activate it. It was quite late and I did not want to bother the owners so I just drew a bath instead. None of the other 10 hotels I stayed at in New Zealand had a shower/tub set up like this, so thankfully it does not appear to...

Amazing location and great personable service.. so close to so many food options but hands down fat kiwi was the very best restaurant ever and I think we will miss their food so much. You can walk there for breakfast and lunch. The owner is very kind and helpful. If you don't mind the beds on the soft side like our kids you will enjoy it. I prefer a harder bed so I found it a bit uncomfortable but still managed to get a great sleep. Very quiet location yet so close to everything and the playground across the road was tops for the kids after a day at the caves. It provides all the facilities to cook your own meals if you don't feel like eating out. You can walk to restaurants and bars. Very close drive to waitomo. Walk distance...

It's clean and reasonably well-appointed.||||The man on the front desk did not check our vaccine passes and he took off his mask while saying he was hot from working outside. ||||The position is great with the supermarket across the road. ||||The compendium in the room has the rhetoric you sometimes see in smaller owner-operated accommodation e.g. threatening you with a fine for infringements like not leaving the cooking facilities clean enough.||||There is also reference to their preference for burning carbon-producing natural gas rather than using clean hydro-generated electricity. I'm not sure why? Gas is cheaper but it's dirtier too - I'd rather they use electricity and keep the world just a little...
