Fat Kiwi Cafe — Restaurant in Waikato

When we arrived around noon there was no queue and the two of us ordered coffee, a Fat Kiwi Big Breaky $29, an omelette $24 and a salad $10. The coffee and salad were brought to us very quickly. After us many people arrived, got their coffee and breakfast and left. After almost an hour we ordered coffee again and asked if they had forgotten our breakfastorder. A lady went into the kitchen, came back and said there was a waiting time(?): "It takes a while to cook an egg". But we ordered ommelette and scrambled eggs... After another 25 minutes we asked again and the same lady went into the kitchen again, came back and said it would only take another two minutes. No apologies, no admission something went wrong, and after another 15 minutes our breakfast was served. These were the most disgusting tasteless dishes we've ever eaten in New Zealand. It looked great but the eggs tasted like it was made from powder, the watery gruel didn't taste like eggs at all and the meat was greasy. The Fat Kiwi, great name but big...

This place is AWESOME! Saw the signs on the highway when travelling from Pukekohe to Waitara to visit my grandie. Loved the name and decided "that's the place for me!" Got a spice chai latte refill in my Keep cup and the added little bonus of two pieces of blondie. It would have to have been THE BEST chai latte I've ever had! Great friendly staff, nice clean amenities and obviously a very popular stop, judging by the number of customers already dining in. Cabinet food had some interestingly different offerings and reasonably priced. Will have to indulge in something next trip. Made sure I stopped again for another spice chai on my return journey 2 weeks later. Added bonus for folks travelling with their fur children - bowls of fresh water for them. Asked a takeaway friand and dine in long black which was really good. I ordered big brekkie and it was pretty underwhelming. The mushrooms looked like they were leftovers from the weekend, the sausages were just cooked through, but no colour on them and cold. The gluten free bread wasn't toasted which was weird. I was charged more than I should've been, when I sat down I was delivered the food fairly quickly, no knives only forks on the table. No serviettes either. I asked if what I was charged was correct and the woman said she would get me my receipt.
