Read moreA shocking experience at this motel. 23/3/2024 First impressions were of a very unloved property outside. Entered the room and was surprised to find NO shower just a shower head over the spa. Unsure how this would work. Noticed grubby kick marks on the spa surround and a filthy ring on the floor of the spa. This was not a "Rotorua" issue, knowing that properties often have sulphurous residue. A two seater recliner was so filthy we discussed using a towel to drape over it before we sat. On checking the bedding, I found a top, dress pillow stacked against the fresh white pillow. It had dribble marks all over it.
When putting the jug on for an afternoon cuppa my eye caught drip marks on the floor of the kitchenette. This worried me. I took a cloth from the bathroom (yes. I could have used the kitchen cloth but I went with my gut instinct) wet the corner and applied a tiny amount of dishwash... I never dreamed that the result could be so bad. The cloth was unrecognisable.
I went straight to the office with the cloth and the pillow, I wanted to discuss the shock I was in. This was at 5.15pm. Having checked in at 2.30pm and then explored the city. Door was locked. Lights were off. A man pulled into the carpark as I tried to decide what to do. He called to me I asked "Are you the manager or the owner?" He was the owner. I came into the office and showed him the pillowcase and then the cloth. His wife had now entered the office. He was very apologetic that I was upset with the hygiene issues.
His wife? Went OFF at me for using the wrong cloth on the floor. This was a 20 minute ordeal, during which I said we would check out. The owner actually shut me out of the office when another patron pulled in to check in. At all times I was very clear that the level of hygiene was far too poor for hosting public. The husband and wife had a screaming match in their first language which made the situation even more tense and uncomfortable for me. We were given an 80% refund and left. I implore you to never set foot in this filthy, unloved and...
