After many years working in high end luxury lodges - I realised the thing that set us all apart was the service we provide and our ongoing pursuit of exceeding the guests expectations. Whilst the Pembrooke Lodge is not a Luxury Lodge (and nor does it pitch itself to be), the service I received way exceeeded what I expected.||||Firstly - the rooms are dated yes - but they are VERY clean and spacious and the bed very comfortable. I arrived early in the morning as I was heading north for the day on business so asked if I could park my car on site as I was travelling with a colleague. Not only could I leave y car there, but was handed the key and told to check in to the room if I wanted to - and is was not quite 10am!!!||Upon returning from Kaitaia, I went to my car to see something over my drivers side window - and immediately thought that someone had broken in - but no, I had left the window open and after a beautiful morning in Whangarei - the heavens opened in the afternoon and the owners saw my open window and took it on themselves to cover the gap with a towel to prevent the inside of my car getting wet. I was of course incredibly grateful.||That is the stuff that impresses me and reaffirms in my mind that this is exactly the place I will return to, over and over when transiting Whangarei. I will also tell this story a hundred times in the hope that other travelers through Northland experience the wonderful husband and wife team who manage the Lodge. ||Thank you for a memorable stay in your lodge and yes - I will...
Read moreI don't normally complain although this may sound like I do Overpriced Place smelt damp - I think to compensate they opened the windows during the day, in NZ in July, not going to work, it actually made it worse because we didn't turn up until 7.30pm so the place was freezing, one could have expected the motelier would have closed the windows and perhaps put the heater on, although in saying that he would have needed to do that at 5.00pm because there was one small oil heater for a two room unit Motelier had an indifferent attitude
Basically this motel is very tired and has had no money spent on the units for years, the beds, lounge suite and TV are old, turned the TV on and off about five times because I thought it wasn't going but you just had to give it time to warm up (got the impression it had valves in it:). I think this is one of those places where the new motels in Whangarei have been built and they charge a little under their price rather than charging what they are worth. Paid $160 and to be honest I would have priced it at $120 max, anyway I would rather have paid $180 and gone to a better more friendly place, wont be going back that...
Read morePembrooke Motor Lodge was a very nice and comfortable accommodation and the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Also the reception area had many brochures about Whangarei and free WIFI was available. We were given a large room with a kitchenette, lounge area with couch and large TV and reasonably large bathroom. The bed was also very large, warm and comfortable with clean fresh sheets. The little kitchenette had facilities were great and included a microwave, toaster, fridge with fresh milk, jug with hot drinks, a sink, cups utensils and plates, there was also a table and chairs and a desk area to put all your things. Overall this was a very nice accommodation at a reasonable price, it was also very tidy and clean and the staff...
