I had the pleasure of staying at Motel Six in Whangārei for 5 days, and it was such a wonderful experience that I feel compelled to share it. If you’re looking for a place to rest and recharge without rushing your trip, this motel is absolutely worth considering.
The rooms are impressively spacious, spotless, and thoughtfully designed. The decor feels warm and inviting, with little touches that make a big difference. For example, they provide complimentary tea, fresh milk in the fridge, and even small welcome cards that add a personal touch. As someone who has stayed in countless motels and hotels over the years, I rarely find this level of care and attention to detail. It honestly felt more like staying in a boutique hotel rather than a typical motel.
The location is another highlight. Parking is convenient and right outside the rooms, which is perfect if you’re traveling with luggage. The motel is situated within walking distance of a New World and there are plenty of great cafés and eateries nearby. Whether you’re grabbing a coffee or enjoying a casual meal, everything you need is just a short walk away.
The service is where this motel truly shines. The manager is one of the friendliest and most genuine hosts I’ve ever met. Every morning, she greeted me with a smile and took the time to chat, making me feel right at home. You can tell she takes great pride in ensuring her guests are comfortable and well looked after. It’s rare to find such personalized hospitality these days, and it really stood out to me. Honestly, the service and atmosphere here could rival some 3.5-star hotels in central Auckland.
Another small detail that I appreciated was how well the motel was maintained. From the cleanliness of the bathrooms to the crisp sheets on the bed, everything was spotless and well cared for. Even after staying for five days, I didn’t encounter a single issue.
If you’re passing through Whangārei or planning to spend a few days exploring the area, I can’t recommend Motel Six enough. It’s comfortable, convenient, and offers a level of service that rivals even some higher-end hotels. I left feeling refreshed and genuinely impressed, and I’ll definitely be returning if I’m ever back...
Read moreWe selected this place based on the good reviews and are so happy that we did , from the moment we arrived we have been well taken care of ! We arrived early and travelled from Auckland during cyclone tam weather issues so popped into see if we could organise to check in early & we’re instantly accommodated with the understanding that the weather was horrible and we just needed to be here safe and warm . Extremely grateful for that alone but we also added a extra night and even this was accomodate with no issues , the price for what we have received has been well worth every dollar , we have stayed in high end hotels and airbnb’s but honestly based on the service here and the cleanliness of the whole room we would rate this very highly and recommend to anyone considering it !! The room we booked is very practical and offers a full oven / stove , fridge , full bench space w plates cups etc complimentary tea , coffee , sugar salt cookies and milk + the bathrooms included lots of toilet rolls comfy clean towels topped up on request , body wash shampoo tooth brushes + paste even a razor all the little things that are super useful during travelling . The beds are very warm , CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN like next level clean and they have a heater , fan and electric blanket with plenty of luggage storage , I really liked that you have a sliding door w a small patio chair and table to relax if the weathers nice parking is conveniently right outside our door they have a laundry room / dryer available too. We really appreciate how clean the overall room is the bathrooms were immaculate (just needs a air ventilation system for the shower steam ) but enjoyed that the areas in bathroom were seperate the sheets were well washed , fresh and the floors were well cleaned even behind the couch is cleaned ! We moved it to accomodate our kids and were surprised at how every inch of this room has actually been vacuumed , location is perfect your within walking distance to the main take out vendors a dairy across the road and supermarkets are close a 5 min drive gets you up town . Will happily return...
Read moreWe have stayed at Motel 6 multiple times when visiting Whanau and friends in Whangarei at the Hospital or for Rugby games and the high quality of service and attention to detail provided by the Beautiful Staff members working here still remains the same - absolutely Exceptional 🫶 Overall this motel has surpassed all my expectations every time and is the only Motel or place, I will stay at if staying in Whangarei. This Motel has everything you require for a short or long term stay, right down to the cute little Toothbrush 🪥 & Toothpaste+Razor if you forgot to pack it in your bags 😉they even provide extra towels too and go out of there way to make your stay comfortable. Not to mention the amazing complimentary Brew gears, Biscuits, Milk and Full kitchenette-if you prefer cooking for your Whanau-they have it all and I highly recommend this place for anyone wanting to stay in Whangarei.
The staff here are absolutely beautiful people and are very hard working too. They always go the extra mile by welcoming and accommodating there guests, right from the moment we check in and to the time you check out-they were even lovely enough to allow me to Wash & Dry my clothes as we had only planned for a short overnight stay when visiting our sister in Whangarei. But because we enjoyed our stay here so much, we tried booking again online the very next day when my sister was able to visit us, and since it is a very Popular motel with Whānaus there were no rooms showing as available on Booking.com or Hotel trivago. However, I was able to contact the Motel direct and spoke to the lovely owner who allowed me to book directly with them which was awesome for us as we didn't want to stay any where else 😉 which we were really grateful for.
The rooms are always clean, tidy and comfortable, and the view of the city from it was splendid. I will certainly return here during my next visit to Whangarei. Nga mihi...
