Masonic Hotel — Hotel in Palmerston North

We recently hired the large function room at The Masonic Hotel for a 21st birthday. Right from the very start, Colleen and Murray (the proprietors) made everything so effortless....from discussing and organising catering to the use of the many systems available for hire.

The prices quoted were very reasonable and the service provided was outstanding. The staff available for the function were friendly and professional and were all very helpful on the night. The catering was exceptional and the quality was of a very high standard.

Overall the whole experience from the commencement/reservation of the facilities, right through to the very end, was sensational! I would definitely be recommending this venue to anyone looking for a somewhere to hold their function.

I rated it is just ok. The room was nice and clean, but it felt quite small and there was a strange smell, best described as urine. I understand that it is definitely a 3-star hotel.

The single bed only has an electric blanket, but the double bed doesn't have one😕, yes there is a heater, too. The shower was not ok, only a trickle and it was not easy to make warm.

🐜 Ants found in this hotel, coming through a crack at the lower wall in the room, lots of them, and there was no food around to attract them.

Also, we had trouble sleeping on Saturday night because there was loud music in the bar (ground floor), which is so annoying (between 9pm and 1am), I wish they should need to turn it down. We could not recommend the Masonic enough. The rooms are clean, tidy and spacious, and the location is perfect. All of the staff we met at the Masonic were lovely. We arrived early when the hotel was not yet open. However, Colleen was more than happy to open the doors for us and let us into one of the rooms to store our bags while the other one was still occupied/being cleaned. Colleen recommended places to go celebrate after a graduation, and even drove us to the airport when we left so we did not have to spend more money on an Uber. We will be recommending the Masonic to friends or family who travel to Palmerston and need a place to stay, and if we ever return we will 100% stay again. Thank you...
